9.6 overs (0 Run) Ends with a dot and that marks the end of the first Powerplay as well. On a length on middle and angled in, Heinrich Klaasen stays put and dabs it down toward mid-wicket. South Africa reeling at 35/3!

Heinrich Klaasen is the next man in.

9.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Mohammed Shami has done it again! Pitches this one up on a nagging length and on a very tight lien around off. Shami gets this one to move away late and Aiden Markram is pressed back in his crease. Markram is forced to play at it and he gets a faint outside edge that goes down to the right of the keeper. KL Rahul dives in and pouches it safely which is also confirmed on the replays and another in-form batter has to depart early. South Africa in all sorts of trouble now!

8.4 overs (1 Run) Nagging length on middle, turning away a touch, Aiden Markram works it off the back foot toward mid-wicket and picks up a single.

Aiden Markram comes out to the middle now.

8.3 overs (0 Run) OUT! TIMBER! Gets it to turn past the outside edge and just like Keshav Maharaj, Ravindra Jadeja knocks over the off stump of an opening batter in his first over. This is pushed through at a good pace and angled onto middle, Temba Bavuma stays there and just looks to block it with soft hands. The ball grips and rips away slightly and goes past the outside edge to castle into the off stump. South Africa two down early and with not many runs on the board either.

8.2 overs (0 Run) Bowled fuller and on off again, Temba Bavuma keeps it out to cover.

8.1 overs (1 Run) Quicker and flatter on off stump, pushed away from the crease down to wide long off for a single.

7.6 overs (0 Run) A maiden! Probably the best time to bat on this pitch but South Africa have been put on the back foot with that early wicket and simply can’t get going here. This is banged in a bit shorter outside off, Temba Bavuma looks to get on top of the bounce and force it through covers but mistimes the shot.

7.1 overs (0 Run) Pitches this one right up around middle, angling it in, Temba Bavuma gets on the front foot and hits it toward mid off.

6.6 overs (0 Run) On a hard length around off, angled in and this one straightens off the deck. Rassie van der Dussen gets behind the line and blocks it out. A very sedate start for South Africa and India not letting them get away.

6.5 overs (0 Run) A spicy bumper now, over middle and angling in, Rassie van der Dussen ducks under it well.

6.4 overs (1 Run) Uppish but in the gap! Shorter ball outside off, Temba Bavuma doesn’t move his feet and looks to punch it over cover-point but ends up spooning it well wide of the man at point and down to third man for a single.

5.2 overs (0 Run) Pitches this one up around off and gets the ball to tail back in, Rassie van der Dussen gets on the front foot and firms it to the man at extra cover.

9.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! DRAGGED ON! Mohammed Shami is on fire here as England lose their fourth wicket. Comes from over the wicket to the right-hander and serves it on a hard length close to the off stump. This one holds its line and Jonny Bairstow looks to push at it with hard hands. The ball takes the inside edge, goes onto the body and then goes back on to hit the stumps. Bairstow is left dumbfounded and now Shami is on a hat-trick as England continue to lose wickets at an alarming rate.

Tough, tough chance goes begging.

8.1 overs (0 Run) Pitched up around off, angling in, Jonny Bairstow drives it off the inner half of the bat toward mid on.

The skipper, Jos Buttler walks out to bat with his side in a spot of bother.

7.6 overs (0 Run) OUT! TIMBER! Mohammed Shami has done to Ben Stokes what England did to Virat Kohli and the talismanic player departs for a duck. Shami goes a bit wider of the crease again and angles it in on a good length from around off. Ben Stokes backs away and has a swipe across the line but the ball pitches and comes back in with the angle, skidding past the bat and shattering the stumps. The decibel levels in the crowd are unbelievable and England are in all sorts of trouble at 33/3 as Shami bowls a wicket-maiden.

7.5 overs (0 Run) Goes full this time and angles it into middle and leg, Ben Stokes flicks it to wide mid on for no run.

7.4 overs (0 Run) Excellent bowling from Shami! Bowls it with an upright seam, from wide of the crease and angling it in from around off. Ben Stokes covers the line and looks to block but the ball seams away and beats the outside edge yet again.

6.5 overs (0 Run) Slightly back of a length outside off, Jonny Bairstow stands tall and punches it out toward cover.

6.4 overs (0 Run) Nagging length around off, cutting back in, Jonny Bairstow plays it on the up but off the inner half and the ball goes back to the bowler. The dots just keep piling up!

6.3 overs (0 Run) Full and deadly accurate as well, swinging it into middle stump at 140 clicks. Jonny Bairstow stays back and just blocks it back to the bowler.

6.2 overs (0 Run) Fuller this time and outside off, driven straight to extra covers.

6.1 overs (0 Run) NO HAT-TRICK! Hard length on off stump and this one nips back in off the deck. Jonny Bairstow tentatively looks to block it from his crease but is beaten on the inside edge and gets hit high on the back leg.

AUS vs NZ Live Score: Pitch report

“It’s nice and cool. Straight boundary – 79 metres, square – 70 metres and 64 metres respectively. England played here against Bangladesh. If you are a bowler, you are saying can we get more grass, you are not getting that today. There’ll be something in the pitch early on, for a little period only. It looks good, it’s hard, it’s flat, a few cracks here and there. You won’t get more spin than normal. In essence, good carry-through to the keeper, batters are gonna cash in after that initial period. Definitely bowl first,” said Anjum Chopra and Pommie Mbangwa.

  • 09:50 (IST)

Australia vs New Zealand Live Score: A confident New Zealand

New Zealand’s winning run ended when India handed them a four-wicket defeat here on last Sunday, but the Kiwis will still be confident about their style of play as they have better understanding of the conditions having spent a considerable time. Adapting to the varied Indian conditions has been spoken about extensively in this World Cup and New Zealand and South Africa, of course apart from India, are perhaps the only two teams who have not only managed to do that but also have learned to get their best out on the park in terms of team combinations.

  • 09:46 (IST)

Live Cricket Score: Head to Head

Even though New Zealand have been one of the top teams in the competition, their ordinary bilateral ODI and World Cup against Australia makes Cummins and Co the favourites. With eight wins and three losses in 11 matches in World Cups so far and overall 95 wins and 39 losses in 141 ODIs, Australia have historically been the better team in the Trans-Tasman rivalry. The fact that New Zealand’s last ODI win over Australia came six years ago in 2017 would also have a great bearing on the contest here, to be played at the picturesque HPCA Stadium.

  • 09:41 (IST)

AUS vs NZ Live Score: Big day for Santner

New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner will be playing his 100th ODI match today. Currently, the fourth highest wicket-taker in the ongoing tournament, with a total of 12 scalps, Santner is in fiery form and is a crucial member of the Kiwi squad.

  • 09:33 (IST)

AUS vs NZ Live Score: A dominant Australia

Australia bounced back from a poor start — defeats against hosts India and South Africa — with three wins on the trot, including a record 309-run thumping of the Netherlands in their last outing to sound warning bells to their opponents. Entering a crucial phase in the tournament, the five-time champions are currently placed at fourth position, one spot behind New Zealand after five games each. And the Pat Cummins-led side would look to carry forward the momentum and strengthen their position in the top four.

  • 08:49 (IST)

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the World Cup 2023 clash between Australia and New Zealand. New Zealand are third in the points table with 8 eight points from five games, while Australia are fourth with six points in as many outings.

3.3 overs (0 Run) OUT! TAKEN! That is a sharp catch! Shreyas Iyer with an excellent effort. Conway can feel a little unlucky. He would have thought it is a certain boundary when he hit it. Mohammed Siraj strikes. Early wicket for India. Just what they would have wanted and it is the big one. On the pads, Devon Conway flicks it, it comes right off the middle, it flies towards mid-wicket. Iyer dives to his right and takes it low down. A little too the left or the right and it would have been a boundary but it was quite close to the fielder and Iyer reacted well.

3.2 overs (0 Run) Good length and on off, Conway keeps it out. Good from Siraj, two balls and both making the batter play. THis is what India need to do more.

3.1 overs (0 Run) Conway is still to get off the mark! This is fuller and on off, this is pushed to cover.

2.6 overs (0 Run) Keeps bowling that nagging length, the line is also around off, Young can only defend.

2.5 overs (0 Run) Relentless stuff from Jasprit Bumrah! Good length and on off, defended.

2.4 overs (0 Run) Slightly fuller and around off, Young leans into it and strokes it to covers. Good from Young so far, he is looking confident. Putting in a good stride and playing it confidently.

2.3 overs (0 Run) Around off, defended solidly.

2.2 overs (0 Run) Outside off, on a length, left alone.

2.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Good effort but in vain! This is a really good delivery and it is well played too! Length and around off, this lands and takes off. It also moves away. Will Young does well to play it with soft hands, it goes off the outside edge fine on the off side. Third man runs to his right, dives but in vain.

1.6 overs (1 Run) A single to end then! This one is a lot better, closer to the off pole, this is guided down to third man for one.

1.5 overs (0 Run) Make that another leave! This is yet again outside off, Young points the bat skywards.

1.4 overs (0 Run) Yet another nut outside off, Will Young shoulders arms to it again. The Indians so far have been quite wide outside off.

1.3 overs (0 Run) Another one outside off, Young this time lets it go. Not a lot of movement for Siraj as of now.

1.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Nice placement! Will Young is off the mark! Shorter and outside off, Young waits and then guides it past point. This one races away to the fence. First runs is in the form of a boundary.

1.1 overs (0 Run) Decent start from him too! On a length and outside off, Will Young shoulders arms to this one.

Mohammed Siraj to bowl from the other end.

0.6 over (0 Run) A maiden to begin with! Another one full and outside off, Devon Conway does not play at it. Jasprit Bumrah did get some decent movement but was quite wide outside off.

0.5 over (0 Run) Excellent from Bumrah! He is getting the ball to go both ways. This is the away swinger, it lands outside off and swings away. Left alone though as the line was not right.

0.4 over (0 Run) RIght on the money again! Good start from Bumrah. Also, he got this one to tail back in, it starts from around off and swings back in. Defended well.

0.3 over (0 Run) Attacks the stumps again, this is on a length and around off, blocked.

0.2 over (0 Run) Makes the batter play this time! This lands on middle and angles away. Devon Conway stays back and defends it.

0.1 over (0 Run) A little bit of movement off the pitch for Bumrah there. Length and outside off, Conway leaves it alone.

Done with the Anthems! It is time for the action to begin! The Indians make their way out to the middle and they are followed by the Kiwi openers, Devon Conway and Will Young! Jasprit Bumrah to begin.

Time for the National Anthems! The players and the umpires make their way out to the middle. The visitors will sing their first and then it will be the hosts’ turn.

New Zealand (PLAYING XI) – Devon Conway, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (WK/C), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

India (PLAYING XI) – Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj.

Tom Latham says they wanted to bowl first too as there could be dew but he hopes to bat well now. Adds they will look to stick to their plans and hope to do well again. Informs they are playing the same team.

Rohit Sharma says there could be dew, it looks like a good pitch and they want to back their strength. States it is important to keep the momentum going and forget what has happened, anybody can beat anyone and hence, they have to be switched on. Adds this is one of his favourite stadiums and it is good to play here. Informs they have made two changes, Hardik and Shardul are out and Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami come in.

TOSS – India have won the toss and ELECTED TO BOWL!

New Zealand on the other hand, have yet again been the surprise package. Yes, we probably say that about them in every World Cup but this time, without the services of Kane Williamson, they have been exceptional. Tom Latham has been brilliant with his captaincy and the senior players have stepped up. They too will wanting to make it another win but they face a stiff task ahead. Can they upset the odds? We will find out. Toss and teams in a bit.

The Indians have been dominant in this World Cup so far! They have beaten their oppositions quite easily. The key for them has been the form of Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah. The three have been at their best and the hosts seem an unstoppable force till now. They though are up against their least favourite opposition in recent times, New Zealand. They have struggled to beat them in recent times in the World Cups. That all can change here today. India are surely favourites heading into this game and will be looking to continue their winning streak.

Two of the best teams in the competition so far will be locking horns! Tournament favourites India will be taking on the Kiwis. Two teams that are still to lose a game. It is a clash between the table toppers. This promises to be an absolute cracker. Welcome to the coverage.

Right then, Bangladesh have posted a fighting albeit under-par total on the board but their bowlers will need to be at their absolute best if they are to defend this and upset the hosts. India have a long batting order and with most of the batters in form will fancy themselves to gun this down and maintain their unbeaten record in the tournament. But if Hardik Pandya is unable to take the field and Bangladesh do get early wickets, it could turn out to be quite a contest. Join us in a bit to see how the chase unfolds.

Ravindra Jadeja is down for a quick chat. He says that the wicket looks very good and there was no turn. Adds that if they play normal cricket, they should get over the line. On his celebration, he says that it was for the fielding coach who gives out the best fielder award after the game and he wants to get his hands on that trophy. Mentions that it looks like a flat wicket and hopes that the batters can get the job done. Also says that when there is no turn for the spinner, you have to bowl wicket-to-wicket and keep the lines tight.

India, on the other hand, will be happy with the way they recovered after that big opening partnership. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah bowled well with the new ball but without any rewards. They suffered a setback when Hardik Pandya got injured just after bowling three balls and Virat Kohli finished the over which got the crowd going. It was once again the magic of Kuldeep Yadav that provided them the crucial breakthrough which was followed up well by Ravindra Jadeja who got two important wickets as well. A scintillating catch from KL Rahul behind the stumps got Siraj his first wicket which put more pressure on the batters and the hosts managed to squeeze in some cheap overs. Then Jadeja produced another stunner to give Bumrah his first wicket. They kept the pressure on with both pacers getting one more wicket each in the death overs while Shardul Thakur who had another off day got one too in the end.

Bangladesh found it a bit hard initially against the Indian pacers but their openers did not throw their wickets away and once their eyes were set started the counter-attack. They targeted Hardik Pandya and Shardul Thakur and racked up some beautiful boundaries. Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan created a bit of history as they added 93 runs together which is also the highest opening partnership for Bangladesh in ODI World Cups. Tanzid finally showed why he was backed and made a fine fifty but got out just after reaching it. Das lost a couple of partners and then decided to change gears, it worked for him as he brought up his second half-century of the tournament but got out on 66 going for a big one as well. Mushfiqur Rahim and Towhid Hridoy steadied the ship for them after that but the latter struggled throughout and caved under pressure as he made 16 off 35 balls which cost him side a lot of deliveries. Rahim departed after a well-made 38 but the experience of Mahmudullah came in handy as he provided the finishing touches with a decent knock of 46 off just 36 balls and a few lusty blows from Nasum Ahmed and cracking six of the last ball from Shoriful helped them get to a competitive total.

Another good bowling performance from India! They would have hoped to finish even better but will be pleased with the overall effort. Bangladesh will be kicking themselves for not fully capitalising on the start given by their openers and has to settle for 256 runs.

49.6 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Oh, that is some way to finish off the innings! Jasprit Bumrah bangs this one in a bit and pushes it outside off, trying to keep the ball away from the hitting arc. Shoriful Islam backs away and just frees his arms, slapping the ball up and over the cover-point fence for a biggie. Shoriful brings out a cheeky smile and Bangladesh end up with 256/8!

49.5 overs (0 Run) Back of a length and angled into the body, Shoriful Islam gets cramped for room but manages to block it out.

49.4 overs (1 Run) We have gone from cricket to tennis now! Mustafizur Rahman early to back away and Jasprit Bumrah angles in a bumper right at the helmet. Fizz brings out the forehand smash and gets it through extra cover for a single. The 250 is up for Bangladesh!

49.3 overs (1 Run) Full and outside off, in the blockshole once again. Shoriful Islam backs away and pushes it out to mid off for one.

Shoriful Islam comes out to the middle now.

49.2 overs (0 Run) OUT! TIMBER! Jasprit Bumrah with a trademark yorker and he gets the job done. Goes full and straight, at over 140 clicks and gets it right at the base of the middle stump. The ball swerves a bit in the air as Mahmudullah tries desperately to keep it out but the ball hits the toe and smashes into the stumps. End of a fighting knock by Mahmudullah and Bumrah gets his second wicket.

49.1 overs (0 Run) Very full, in the blockhole around off and angling in. Mahmudullah looks to jam it out but gets an inside edge onto the pads. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma has gone for the review for an LBW but the replays clearly show that there was a big inside edge. One taken more in hope more than anything else.

Jasprit Bumrah (9-1-33-1) to bowl the last over. Can he keep Bangladesh under 260? Let’s find out.

48.6 overs (0 Run) Full and on the stumps, Mustafizur Rahman hits it down to long on but stays where he is and Mahmudullah will keep strike for the final over.

48.5 overs (0 Run) Hard length on leg stump, cramping the batter for room. Mustafizur Rahman tries to back away but only manages to force it out to short extra cover.

48.4 overs (1 Run) Very full and wide, executed better by Siraj and Mahmudullah only manages to squeeze it away wide of third man for a single.

48.4 overs (1 Run) Wide! Full and wide outside off, sprayed beyond the tramline and Mahmudullah leaves it alone.

48.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! What a strike! Mohammed Siraj misses his mark and serves it in the slot and around middle. Mahmudullah holds hi shape well and hoicks it over the long on fence for a biggie.

48.2 overs (0 Run) Eyeing up that leg side once again. Full and outside off, Mahmudullah walks across to slog it away but cue-ends it back to the bowler who makes a half-stop.

48.1 overs (2 Runs) Hard length well outside off, Mahmudullah is early to walk a long way across the off stump and lifts it high toward wide long off. The ball falls safely and Mahmudullah gets back on strike with a brace.

47.6 overs (0 Run) Ends with a bumper as this is bowled over the stumps and angled in. Mustafizur Rahman ducks under it.

47.5 overs (0 Run) Nails the yorker again, at 144.5 clicks and right on the leg peg. Mustafizur Rahman does manage to keep it out toward mid on but that’s top-tier bowling from Bumrah.

47.4 overs (0 Run) Comes from around the wicket and attacks the pads at 145 clicks with a length ball, angling in. Mustafizur Rahman does well to stay back and gets some bat on it.

47.3 overs (1 Run) Gets the yorker in this time, at 141.9 clicks and tailing in from outside off. Mahmudullah digs it out to extra cover for a single.

47.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Excellent placement! On a good length but well outside off, Mahmudullah stays put and lets the ball come on before opening the bat face and guiding it in between backward point and short third for a boundary. Crucial knock thus far from Mahmudullah here.

47.1 overs (0 Run) Slower one, full and outside off, just inside the tramline. Mahmudullah looks to drive but is beaten.

46.6 overs (0 Run) Short ball over the stumps again and getting a bit of oomph off the deck. Mustafizur Rahman stays inside the line and watches it sail through to the keeper.

Mustafizur Rahman walks out to bat now.

46.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Mohammed Siraj sticks to his strength and gets his man eventually. Banged in short over middle and leg, with a bit of pace behind it as well. Nasum Ahmed stays deep and makes room, trying to go for the pull but only manages a thin edge through to the keeper and KL Rahul gobbles up the chance with ease.

46.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Finds the gap well! Takes pace off this time and bowls it on a shortish length outside off, Nasum Ahmed backs away and thumps it in between mid off and the cover region for a second boundary in the over.

46.3 overs (0 Run) Banged in shorter this time, over middle and leg and at almost 140 clicks. Nasum Ahmed once again looks to back away and take it on but misses.

46.2 overs (0 Run) Hard length over the leg stump, Nasum Ahmed backs away and looks to heave it over mid-wicket but only connects with thin air.

Slight halt! It seems like Mohammed Siraj has hurt his finger while trying to stop the ball. The physio is in to check on him now. He looks fine to continue..

46.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! That is a cracking shot! Overpitched on the stumps, Nasum Ahmed drills it back with venom and a bit uppishly as well. Mohammed Siraj tries to get two hands on it but the ball flicks the fingers of the left hand and races away down the ground for a boundary.

Mohammed Siraj (8-0-42-1) replaces Jasprit Bumrah.

45.6 overs (1 Run) Bowls the off-cutter now, on a good length and well outside off. Nasum Ahmed reaches out and manages to tap it in front of extra cover for a single.

45.5 overs (1 Run) Pitched up outside off, punched away off the front foot and through covers for a single.

45.4 overs (6 Runs) SIX! BANG! Mahmudullah laying into Shardul Thakur here. Banged into the pitch and over off stump, Mahmudullah gets on top of the bounce and pulls it flat, just over the mid-wicket fence and picks up a maximum. 13 off the over already!

45.3 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Poor delivery from Shardul Thakur as he bowls a half-volley down leg, Mahmudullah whips it away to the right of deep backward square leg for a boundary.

45.2 overs (2 Runs) Nicely played by Mahmudullah. Good length over middle, Mahmudullah hops back and tucks it away with soft hands toward the vacant mid-wicket region and picks up a couple of runs.

45.1 overs (1 Run) Swung away for one! Banged in short over leg stump, Nasum Ahmed backs away and pulls it down crisply to deep mid-wicket for a single.

Right then, India are on course to extend their lead against Pakistan to 8-0 in ODI World Cups. That said, the job is only half done as the Pakistan pace attack will pose a strong challenge. Will Pakistan manage to recover after a disappointing batting effort and turn up with the ball? We shall find out when we return in a bit for the chase.

Kuldeep Yadav is down for a chat. He says that 100 percent it is going good for him and he tried to focus on his length and bowl slow as the pitch was on the slower side. Adds that he bowled well in the first few overs, not offering much width due to the field restrictions. Adds that he tried to bog down Rizwan and he wasn’t sweeping much, so, tried to force him into playing a bad shot. On the wicket of Saud Shakeel, he says that he saw him playing a few paddles in the last game and luckily was able to get him out with the wrong’un. On the crowd, he says that he is excited to play in front of such a crowd against Pakistan and just tried to enjoy it.

As far as Pakistan are concerned, they have simply imploded under pressure and it was a collapse that only they could have manufactured. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq came out with good, positive intent and got themselves going with boundaries in the first couple of overs. With not much movement in the air nor off the surface, both batters looked at ease until they were dismissed in the space of five overs. Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan then got together and handled the pressure well in the middle phase. Both Babar and Rizwan brought their experience into play during the 82-run stand. However, Babar perished shortly after completing his fifty, and it all went downhill for Pakistan from there. They needed Rizwan to stay out in the middle, especially after Babar’s departure but an absolute ripper by Bumrah crushed Pakistan’s hopes. None of the incoming batters could not handle the pressure and in no time, Pakistan were rolled over for just 191.

This has been a sensational display of bowling by India and this performance shows why they are one of if not the favourites to win the World Cup. At the start, Mohammed Siraj went searching for swing and was guilty of bowling a bit too full and straight. In the process, he leaked a lot of boundaries, which allowed the two Pakistan openers to get going. It was made up by Jasprit Bumrah bowling tidy spells from the other end. A few overs later, Siraj redeemed himself by accounting for Shafique before Hardik Pandya got into the act to remove the other opener. In the middle phase, the spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja did manage to keep things quiet against Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. Brought back on for another spell, Siraj nipped out the Pakistan skipper, which opened the floodgates for India. A couple of overs later, Kuldeep Yadav went bang, bang, to pile more misery on Pakistan. At that stage, Rohit Sharma sensed an opportunity to bring Jasprit Bumrah back into the attack, and the move worked like a charm as the latter breached the defences of Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan to peg back Pakistan even more. Towards the end, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja completed the formalities and put an end to Pakistan’s struggles with the bat.

Wow, this has been a collapse of some enormity! Pakistan go from 155-2 to be bowled out for 191! India have turned the game around in the space of 15 overs to skittle Pakistan out in this high-voltage clash. Rohit Sharma was brilliant with his captaincy throughout and the Men in Blue will be the happier of the two sides going into the halfway mark.

42.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! LBW! Gone with the wind! Another loud appeal for LBW and the umpire stands still. This time though Rohit Sharma does review it. Ravindra Jadeja is back to bowl from around the stumps to the right-hander and fires one in at the pads. Haris Rauf leans on and looks to play it with a straight bat but the ball slides on and beats the bat to crash into the pads. It seems to be sliding and there’s nothing on UltraEdge either. The Ball Tracking shows that it is sliding on but not as much and is hitting leg stump. Jadeja rounds up proceedings with his second wicket and Pakistan have been bundled out for a meager 191.

42.4 overs (1 Run) On the stumps, Shaheen Afridi steps out to slog it away but only manages to get it off the inside edge to short fine leg for a single.

42.3 overs (0 Run) Flatter one on off, patted away onto the off side.

42.2 overs (0 Run) Comes from over the wicket now and almost wraps things up. Around off, turning back in a long way, Shaheen Afridi goes down to play the reverse sweep but misses and gets hit on the pads. The bowler and skipper appeal but the umpire says no.

42.1 overs (0 Run) Full and quick, at the stumps, Shaheen Afridi leans forward to defend.

41.6 overs (1 Run) Bangs in a short-pitched delivery over leg stump, Shaheen Afridi manages to crouch a bit and half-pull it away in front of fine leg for a single.

41.5 overs (0 Run) Fuller in length around off, angling across, nudged away to mid-wicket. Five dots in the over so far.

41.4 overs (0 Run) Nice and full on the stumps, Shaheen Afridi defends it from his crease.

41.3 overs (0 Run) A slower bumper now, over the stumps and loops up over the head of a ducking Shaheen Afridi.

41.2 overs (0 Run) Brings out the big heave but cannot find the timing. Fuller again on middle, Shaheen Afridi gets the front leg out of the way and hits it off the inner half toward mid on.

41.1 overs (0 Run) Pitched up on middle and leg, Shaheen Afridi solidly defends it out.

40.6 overs (0 Run) Pushed through on off stump, Haris Rauf leans on and pushes it toward mid off.

40.5 overs (2 Runs) Quicker and fuller on the pads, Haris Rauf flicks it away down to fine leg and picks up a couple of runs.

40.4 overs (0 Run) On off stump, pushed back to the bowler.

40.3 overs (0 Run) KL Rahul goes up in appeal for a caught behind but he’s just messing around a bit. Fired in fuller around off, Haris Rauf looks to play it late and run it off the face of the bat but is beaten past the outside edge.

40.2 overs (0 Run) Pushed through quicker and on a nagging length around off, Haris Rauf blocks it out.

Haris Rauf is the last man in for Pakistan.

40.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! Another one bites the dust! Ravindra Jadeja joins in on the fun now and gets rid of Hasan Ali. Jadeja bowls it from ’round the wicket and darts it in, fuller and at the stumps, Hasan Ali is tempted by the length and gets down on one knee to slog it away on the leg side. Ends up slicing it high in the air and only as far as mid-wicket. Shubman Gill stationed there, settles under the skier and reverse cups it comfortably with both hands. Pakistan lose their ninth wicket now as Hasan Ali departs.

34.6 overs (0 Run) Slower through the air and looped up around off, Shadab Khan gets his front leg outside off and tentatively keeps it out on the leg side.

34.5 overs (1 Run) Flighted ball, on middle and angling in, Mohammad Nawaz works it away in front of square leg for a run.

34.4 overs (0 Run) Drifted in on the pads, looking to turn it away, Mohammad Nawaz looks to block but misses and gets hit on the pads.

34.3 overs (0 Run) Floated up outside off, turning it back in, Mohammad Nawaz gets a big stride out and defends it on the off side.

34.2 overs (1 Run) Slightly shorter around leg stump, Shadab Khan goes on the back foot and nudges it down to short fine leg for a single.

34.1 overs (0 Run) Tossed up, full on off, Shadab Khan leans forward to defend.

Mohammad Nawaz strides out to the centre. Can he and Shadab Khan bail Pakistan out of trouble?

33.6 overs (0 Run) OUT! CASTLED! Jasprit Bumrah outfoxes Mohammad Rizwan with a change of pace and it’s all going downhill for Pakistan! Bumrah steams in and goes a touch wider of the crease before rolling his fingers over the ball and delivering an off-cutter. This is bowled on a fullish length around off and just like a quick off-break, the ball comes back in sharply. Rizwan is drawn forward but is undone completely and the ball beats the inside edge to hit the top of the off stump. Rizwan now departs for 49 and Pakistan are 6 down in a jiffy.

33.5 overs (1 Run) Full and wide outside off, Shadab Khan opens the bat face and drives it square to deep cover-point for one.

33.4 overs (1 Run) Nice and full, pushed onto the pads, Mohammad Rizwan leans on and flicks it away ’round the corner for a single. Rizwan moves to 49 now.

33.3 overs (0 Run) Fuller now, around off, Mohammad Rizwan punches it on the up but without much timing toward mid off.

33.2 overs (0 Run) A touch fuller and attacking middle, Mohammad Rizwan stays in his crease and tucks it to mid-wicket. The crowd has once again found its voice.

33.1 overs (0 Run) Hard length around off and angling in, Mohammad Rizwan covers the line well and blocks it out.

Shadab Khan is the new man in with Pakistan struggling at 166-5. Also, a change in bowling as Rohit Sharma brings Jasprit Bumrah back into the attack.

32.6 overs (0 Run) OUT! TIMBER! Bowled around the legs and Iftikhar Ahmed cannot believe it! Kuldeep Yadav bowls the googly now and floats it up full and down leg, looking for the magical spin. Kuldeep doesn’t quite get the turn but forces Iftikhar Ahmed into playing the sweep shot. Iftikhar plays all over it and ends up getting it off the gloves and back onto the stumps. A double-strike from Kuldeep Yadav and Pakistan in a spot of bother here.

32.5 overs (0 Run) Pushed through quicker, on a nagging length and around off, Iftikhar Ahmed is late to get on the back foot but manages to keep it out.

32.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Intent right away from Iftikhar Ahmed! A genuine half-tracker from Kuldeep Yadav, turning in from around off. Ahmed rocks back and muscles the pull shot away in front of deep mid-wicket for a boundary.

32.3 overs (0 Run) Nagging length once again on middle, Iftikhar Ahmed tentatively defends it out.

Iftikhar Ahmed walks in at number 6 for Pakistan.

32.2 overs (0 Run) OUT! LBW! Terrific review and Kuldeep Yadav gets his first wicket of the game. A loud appeal for LBW but it is turned down by the umpire. The keeper KL Rahul seems unsure though but Rohit Sharma does go upstairs. This is floated up on a length and drifted onto the leg stump. It turns towards the line of the stumps from there as Saud Shakeel gets caught on the back foot and is hit on the pads. Nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking shows that the ball did skid on but turned a bit as well. Three reds. Pakistan getting a bit bogged down now as the crowd roars!

32.1 overs (0 Run) Slower through the air, on a shortish length and around off, Saud Shakeel pats it away to silly mid off.

31.6 overs (1 Run) Banged in over middle and leg, Saud Shakeel swivels and pulls it away past square leg for another single.

31.5 overs (1 Run) Hard length over off, Mohammad Rizwan stays put and pulls it away firmly to deep square leg for another single.

31.4 overs (1 Run) Looking for two but have to settle for the single. Pitched a bit further up and well outside off, Saud Shakeel gets on the front foot and caresses it away in front of the man at sweeper cover for one.

31.3 overs (0 Run) Back of a length outside off, tapped away on the bounce to point.

31.2 overs (0 Run) Hard length, closer to the off pole and slanting away, Saud Shakeel stays tentative and looks to play it square but is beaten on the outside edge.

31.1 overs (2 Runs) Good, positive running! Pitched up outside off, angling it across, Saud Shakeel looks to drive it away but gets it off the outer half of the bat to the left of the man at third man and gets back for the second with ease.

Drinks break! Just when Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were beginning to change gears, the former departed which has put Pakistan in a tricky position. With Mohammad Rizwan at the other end, Saud Shakeel cannot afford to take much time and will have to get going quickly. As far as India are concerned, the previous pair was starting to trouble them before Mohammed Siraj provided them with a timely wickeá¹. They will now look to squeeze in a couple of quiet overs and put the pressure back on Pakistan. An interesting phase of the game coming up…

30.6 overs (0 Run) On the shorter side and outside off, Mohammad Rizwan rocks onto the back foot but can’t quite get the punch away through extra cover. Just the single then off that over.

30.5 overs (0 Run) A googly now, on a nagging length and turning away from the leg stump, Mohammad Rizwan plays it under his eyes and dabs it ’round the corner to short fine leg.

30.4 overs (0 Run) Flatter on off stump, forced away onto the on side by Mohammad Rizwan.

30.3 overs (0 Run) A lot slower through the air and floated up outside off, Mohammad Rizwan leans on and uses his wrists to flick it to the right of the bowler.

30.2 overs (1 Run) Drops it a bit shorter, turning away from outside off, Saud Shakeel has enough time to go on the back foot and eases it in front of point for a single.

30.1 overs (0 Run) Nicely looped up, a bit fuller and around off, Saud Shakeel looks to lean and push it on the off side but gets it a bit uppishly off the inner half and to the left of the bowler.

That is it then from this game and all but two teams have already played two matches in this mega event with three teams on four points each. Next up is a big clash between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow. The Aussies will be eyeing their first win whereas South Africa will be looking to keep in touch with the likes of New Zealand, India and Pakistan with two wins from two. That match will start at 2 pm IST (8.30 am GMT) on Thursday, 12 October but you can join us early for the build-up as well. Till then, take care and goodbye!

The skipper of India, Rohit Sharma is back for a chat. He says that it was a good win. Mentions that it is important to get the momentum at the start of a tournament. Feels that there will be a spell from the opposition which might put them under pressure and it is important to absorb it. Reckons that they it is about leaving aside what has happened and moving on. Adds that it is good for the team when different players bring in different skill sets. States that they have batters to go out there and bat freely. Feels that when you have all-round players, things take care of themselves. On the game against Pakistan, he says that they are looking at it like they did this game. Adds that they do not want to worry about factors that are not in their control.

Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi says that they had a target in mind and wanted to get more than 300 runs as they knew India have a strong batting line up but back-to-back wickets in the latter phase held them back. Adds that he decided to bat first as they wanted to put the scoreboard pressure on the opposition but simply lost a few too many wickets. On his partnership with Azmatullah Omarzai, he says that after losing three wickets he told Azmat to simply hold on and build a partnership. Ends by saying that they want to learn from their mistakes and will look to get better in the next game.

Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma has been adjudged PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his fabulous ton. He says that it was a good pitch to bat and adds that he backed himself to play the natural game. Mentions that he knew that the wicket was going to get easier to bat and he is happy to have gone big. Shares that a hundred in a World Cup is always special. On the records broken by him, he says that does not want to think about it and wants to stay focused as they have a long way to go. Adds that he wants to do what the team requires. States that some of his shots are premeditated and let his instincts take over. Ends by saying that it is important not to lose this mindset and he looks to put the team in a comfortable position.

Time for the Presentation…

Earlier in the game, Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. The pitch did look great for batting but was a touch slower than the one in the last game. Once Jasprit Bumrah got the wicket of the charismatic Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz tried his best to keep up the ante. Gurbaz fell soon and Afghanistan were 63/3 before skipper Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai stitched together a 121-run stand to get their innings back on track. However, in the second half of the innings, the Indian bowlers were able to pick up wickets at regular intervals and short spells from Jasprit Bumrah proved to be highly effective as he picked up 4 wickets. Apart from Shahidi and Omarzai, no one else was able to spend time on the crease and Afghanistan limped to 272. Coming to the chase, it went perfectly from start to finish for India as the skipper led from the front and they cruised through to victory.

Afghanistan tried their best but were completely outclassed by the Indians. Afghanistan had an under-par total on the board but the way in which they conceded runs in the opening 10 overs, took away that outside chance of a win from them as well. Fazalhaq Farooqi was surprisingly off his game and gave away a lot of boundaries and Mujeeb Ur Rahman was unable to control proceedings in the first Powerplay as well. Azmatullah Omarzai and Naveen-ul-Haq were decent but didn’t get any wickets either and it was their talisman, Rashid Khan who picked up both the wickets but on the whole, he too was fairly expensive. All in all yet another disappointing outing for Afghanistan and they will now look to bounce back in the next game.

As easy as you like from Rohit Sharma and Co., as they pick up their second victory of the campaign and get the much-needed boost going into their next clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. With 273 runs needed to win on what looked like a pristine batting surface, skipper Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and put the Afghan bowlers to the sword. He kept on finding the fence over after over and soon India were 94/0 in 10 overs with Ishan Kishan hardly getting any runs. Kishan did manage to get into the groove and the openers put on 156 runs for the first wicket as well before the southpaw got out. Rohit went on to score the fastest century by an Indian in World Cups and broke a couple of significant milestones as well on the way before getting out on 131. Rohit couldn’t finish off proceedings but an in-form Virat Kohli struck another half-century and along with Shreyas Iyer managed to end the game with 15 overs still remaining.

34.6 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! THAT’S IT! Virat Kohli finishes the game in style! Azmatullah Omarzai hurls it back of a length again, on middle, Virat Kohli puts the dancing shoes on and slaps it over the umpire. Hits it well wide of mid on for a boundary. India cruise home with 15 overs to spare and 8 wickets in hand!

34.5 overs (2 Runs) FIFTY for Virat Kohli! Yet another ODI fifty for Kohli and this is even more special. Azmatullah Omarzai bangs it in short, on middle and leg, Virat Kohli gets hurried in his shot as he goes for the pull. Splices it in the air but wide of deep backward square leg for a couple of runs to reach his fifty. The crowd are up on their feet to applaud the local boy.

34.4 overs (1 Run) Shortish delivery, on off, Shreyas Iyer gets cramped for room but still manages to steer it down to third man for a run.

34.3 overs (1 Run) Back to bowling back of a length, slower as well, on off, Virat Kohli pats it back past the bowler and takes a single.

34.2 overs (0 Run) A well-directed bumper, on middle, Virat Kohli sways away and lets the ball go through to the keeper.

34.1 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Beautiful timing! Back of a length, closer to off, Virat Kohli picks the length early and drives it on the up. Gets it towards wide mid off where Hashmatullah Shahidi dives over the ball to his left and concedes a boundary.

A slight halt in play as Mohammad Nabi has split the webbing on one of his fingers of the right hand as he made the stop on the previous delivery. A bit of blood is dripping out and Nabi is walking off the field.

33.6 overs (0 Run) This is bowled short again, on off, Shreyas Iyer hammers the pull but straight to mid-wicket. Looks like Mohammad Nabi injured himself as he made the stop.

33.5 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Pulled away solidly! Fazalhaq Farooqi tries to bang it in short, at the batter, the ball sits up nicely for Shreyas Iyer who swivels and pulls it wide of fine leg for a boundary.

33.4 overs (1 Run) Another off pace delivery, around off, on a length, Virat Kohli steers it with an open bat face to third man and gets across for a run.

33.3 overs (0 Run) Full and slower, on middle, Virat Kohli drills it with his bottom hand but picks out the fielder at mid on.

33.2 overs (0 Run) Pacy delivery, on a shortish length, Virat Kohli tries to run it down to third man but gets cramped for room. Can only push it to point.

33.1 overs (1 Run) Comes from ’round the wicket and angles it in, back of a length, on off, Shreyas Iyer taps it gently in front of cover and calls his partner though for a quick single.

Drinks break! With just 18 runs needed to win, India are on the verge of joining New Zealand and Pakistan with 2 wins from 2 to start the World Cup. Afghanistan have been a distant second-best in this game but will look to pick up a wicket or two before the game ends.

32.6 overs (0 Run) This is bowled in the blockhole, on off, Virat Kohli jams it out back to the bowler.

32.5 overs (1 Run) Offers flight, full and around off, Shreyas Iyer extends his arms and drives it square for a run.

32.4 overs (1 Run) A bit too full, on off, Virat Kohli knocks it down to long off for a single.

32.3 overs (2 Runs) Short and around off, Virat Kohli goes on the back foot and pulls it to the right of Rashid Khan at deep square leg for a couple of runs.

32.2 overs (1 Run) Drags the length back and serves it on off, Shreyas Iyer pats it through covers for a run.

32.1 overs (6 Runs) SIX! There comes the big hit from Shreyas Iyer! Mujeeb Ur Rahman loops it up, googly, full and on middle, Shreyas Iyer stays still and smokes it back over the bowler’s head. Sends the ball into the second tier for a 101-metre maximum. Iyer now has the record for the longest six at this World Cup, surpassing the 93-metre hit by Rohit Sharma in this game.

31.6 overs (1 Run) Bends his back and bowls it into the wicket, Shreyas Iyer fetches it from outside off and pulls it hard to deep square leg for a run.

31.5 overs (1 Run) In the channel on off, on a good length, Virat Kohli shuffles a bit and taps it to the left of extra cover for one more run.

31.4 overs (1 Run) Takes pace off and serves it on a length, on the pads, Shreyas Iyer waits for it and tucks it through backward square leg for a run.

31.3 overs (1 Run) On a shortish length, on off, Virat Kohli plays it late and runs it down to third man with an open bat face to third man for a single.

31.2 overs (0 Run) Short and wide outside off, Virat Kohli throws his hands at the delivery but does not connect.

31.1 overs (1 Run) Angling into the batter, back of a length, Shreyas Iyer hops and tickles it down to fine leg for a run.

30.6 overs (0 Run) Wide outside off now, short as well, Virat Kohli cuts it late but straight to backward point.

30.5 overs (0 Run) Slower and shorter, on middle, Virat Kohli goes on the back foot and works it to mid-wicket.

30.4 overs (0 Run) Quicker through the air but on the pads, Virat Kohli helps it straight to short fine leg.

30.3 overs (1 Run) Fullish delivery, around off, squeezed out to deep point for a run.

30.2 overs (0 Run) Sliding in, on middle, Shreyas Iyer tucks this short delivery to mid-wicket.

30.1 overs (1 Run) Pushed through from the front of the hand, full and on off, Virat Kohli knocks it down to long off for run.
