Right then, Australia have posted a fighting total on the board, but their bowlers will need to be absolutely on point to stop the hosts. India will be confident that they have enough quality in their ranks to gun this total down and take an early lead in the series. Join us in a bit to see how the chase unfolds.

The man of the moment for India, Mohammad Shami, is in for a chat. He says that the pacers enjoy each other’s success. Adds that this is the result of them spending the last 7-8 years together. Reckons that with the new ball, he has the responsibility of setting the tempo. Feels that there was not much help from the surface and hence, it was important to use the cutters.

India, on the other hand, was very good with the ball and KL Rahul utilised his assets well but he will be a bit disappointed with his keeping in this game. They played with only five bowlers but that did not affect them that much. Mohammad Shami set the tone by getting rid of Mitchell Marsh early and when the hosts needed a breakthrough, it was him again who dismissed Steven Smith. However, Shreyas Iyer will think that if he hadn’t dropped David Warner then they could have restricted the Aussies to a lower total. Ravindra Jadeja got the big wicket of Warner while Ravichandran Ashwin on his comeback got the in-form Marnus Labuschagne which helped India gain control of this game. At the death, they did concede a few boundaries, but Shami ran through the lower middle order of the visitors and registered a fine five-for while Shardul Thakur remained the only one without a wicket in this game.

Australia struggled initially and losing Mitchell Marsh in the very first over did not help either. Steven Smith wasn’t able to find his timing right but David Warner looked good and played more freely after getting a life as he went on to register a nice half-century but got out just after which shifted the momentum a bit. They added 94 runs together but the visitors failed to build long partnerships after that as both Smith and Marnus Labuschagne couldn’t convert their starts into a big score. Despite their long batting order, they were not that aggressive and it looked like they went into a shell. Cameron Green also got a start but a huge mix-up in the middle with Josh Inglis cost him his wicket. However, a 62-run stand between Inglis and Marcus Stoinis towards the end of the innings took Australia to a competitive score.

A quality bowling performance from India! Mohammad Shami led from the front with a brilliant five-wicket haul which is also the first by any Indian bowler against the Aussies on home soil that helped the hosts restrict Australia to 276. The visitors will be a bit unhappy as looking at their team, they would have hoped for something around or over 300, but their bowlers will like this challenge against this top opposition.

49.6 overs (2 Runs) OUT! RUN OUT! Australia have been bowled out on the last ball of their innings! Shardul Thakur bowls full and near the tramline on off, Pat Cummins makes room and has to reach out for the delivery. Carves it towards deep point where Suryakumar Yadav relays the back towards Ravindra Jadeja. The latter fails to pick it up cleanly and the batters think of stealing a third. Jadeja recovers well and fires an accurate throw to KL Rahul at the batting end, who takes the bails off calmly to catch Adam Zampa well short of his crease. Australia end up with 276 on the board!

49.5 overs (2 Runs) Executes the yorker, at the toes, Pat Cummins jams it out towards the vacant mid-wicket region and calls for two immediately. Ravichandran Ashwin from square leg is late to set off and does not hurl the best of throws towards the bowler. Two runs taken rather comfortably.

47.3 overs (1 Run) Another off pace delivery, short and on off, Pat Cummins dabs it towards backward point and opens his account with a single. Jadeja wanted to have a shy at the stumps but Bumrah instructed him not to.

Pat Cummins is the next man in.

47.2 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT! Jasprit Bumrah gets into the wicket-taking act now! Australia are losing their way as they have now lost both set batters. Bumrah hurls another off cutter, back of a length, outside off, Josh Inglis reaches out to go through the off side but does not read the change of pace. Gets foxed and plays his shot way too early. Ends up lobbing it tamely towards extra cover where Shreyas Iyer completes the easies of catches. Bumrah has his first wicket and Australia are now 7 down. IND vs AUS: 1st ODI: WICKET! Josh Inglis c Shreyas Iyer b Jasprit Bumrah 45 (45b, 3x4, 2x6). AUS 250/7 (47.2 Ov). CRR: 5.28

46.5 overs (1 Run) Lands it on the off stump line, on a good length, Matthew Short pushes it towards extra without any foot movement. Takes a single and opens his account in ODI cricket.

Matthew Short comes out to the middle now on his debut.

46.4 overs (0 Run) OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! Mohammad Shami has the last laugh as he gets his man eventually! Continues to bowl from over the wicket and bowls straight at the stumps, on a length, a hint of tail in, Marcus Stoinis clears his front leg and goes for a mighty heave across the line. He misses it altogether and sees his woodwork rattled. Australia needed Stoinis to bat through but he departs in his quest to take Shami on.

46.3 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Powered down the ground! In the slot by Mohammad Shami, on middle, Marcus Stoinis stays put and with a still head, thumps it back over the umpire’s head for four more runs. IND vs AUS: 1st ODI: Marcus Stoinis hits Mohammad Shami for a 4! AUS 248/5 (46.3 Ov). CRR: 5.33

Right then, folks, we are afraid it is bad news for today as rain has played the show spoiler once again for the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash. Earlier, we saw Babar Azam winning the toss and choosing to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a fantastic start to the innings as they brought up their respective half-centuries. Shadab Khan dismissed Rohit Sharma after he had smashed the leg spinner all around the ground while Shaheen Afridi dismissed Shubman Gill. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul looked well-settled on the pitch and on the way to build a steady partnership but then came the downpour. We saw the covers being removed and inspections happening for a brief period of time but just as things were looking good, the rain arrived again bringing the end of the game for today. Thanks to a reserve day kept for this clash, we will see play resuming from where it stopped, on 11th September at 3 pm IST (9:30 am GMT), and it will remain a 50-overs contest. Our coverage will start an hour earlier until then goodbye and cheers.

UPDATE 8:42 pm IST (3.12 pm GMT) – More bad news folks. The rain has intensified and though the covers are on the ground, more delay is expected. We hope that it passes soon and we can get to see at least some action further in the match. So, hang tight folks as we get you more updates.

UPDATE 8.32 pm IST (3.02 pm GMT) – Just as the umpires started walking out for the inspection, the ground staff are getting the covers back on. There seems to be a light passing shower but given the hard work the ground staff have put in, the logical decision is to get the covers back on. All we can now do is hang tight. Stick around for more updates.

UPDATE 8.11 pm IST (2.41 pm GMT) – The umpires were out for their inspection a few minutes back and that one particular damp patch is still a concern. The ground staff have brought out a makeshift triple-fan set up mounted on a wheelbarrow sort of thing in order to dry that area as the wait for an official word continues. Stay tuned as we might get some official news soon. There is yet another inspection scheduled for 8.30 pm IST (3 pm GMT).

UPDATE 7.40 pm IST (2.10 pm GMT) – Right then, live visuals from the ground show that the inspection is going on and the umpires are having a discussion with the ground staff as well. There are still some damp patches that are of concern but thankfully, the weather has stayed dry for quite some time now. We shall get some official news soon, stay tuned. A few minutes later, the umpires go off again and have a word with the captains, explaining that there are still areas of concern on the outfield. No official word yet but there might be another inspection later on. And, we do have the time of the next inspection, it’s 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT) as there seems to be one area of particular concern that the umpires want to revisit.

UPDATE 6.53 pm IST (1.23 pm GMT) – The covers are almost completely off and the ground staff continues to work overtime in order to dry the ground. It surely is tough work out there for them, especially given the multiple wet patches. As mentioned earlier, priority will be given to complete the game today itself and the latest a 20-over-a-side contest can begin is 10.36 pm IST (5.06 pm GMT) with the cut-off time being 12 am IST. Also, Rohit Sharma can be seen in an elaborate discussion with the umpires trying to get an assessment of how things will proceed. Stick around as an official inspection seems imminent. Minutes later, we do get an inspection time – 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT).

UPDATE 6.15 pm IST (12.45 pm GMT) – There is a lot of activity going on at the ground as the rain seems to have stopped. The ground staff are working hard to remove the covers and get water off them and then put them back on. There is also a spot on the outfield that seems very damp and a lot of sponges are being used to dry it down. In in few minutes’ time, at 6.22 pm IST (12.52 pm GMT) to be precise we will start to lose overs but if things remain as they are, we might get some play in before the day ends. Stick around for more updates.

UPDATE 5.43 pm IST (12.13 pm GMT) – The latest visuals from the ground show that the covers are still firmly in place and the rain has come down to a light drizzle. There was a bit of delay in covering the whole ground when the rain first came pelting down which means there is water on the ground as well and a few puddles have also formed. Let’s hope for the best. Stay tuned as we bring you the latest news from the ground.

UPDATE 5.13 pm IST (11.43 am GM) – The rain is still around and seems to be exceeding its stay but it is not pelting down at the moment which is a positive time. Also, once we start losing overs, the umpires will still try to finish play if possible. Only when a 20-over-a-side contest is not possible, then the game will be moved to the reserve day and will kick on from the point the last ball is bowled. Stick around for more updates.

UPDATE 4.53 pm IST (11.23 am GMT) – Oh, dear! Where did that come from? The rain comes pelting down and the players rush off the field. The ground staff is quick to bring the covers on but it looks like more of a passing shower. Just a few moments later, the intensity has increased further and it looks like we are in for a bit of a delay. Stay tuned for further updates.

Ends by saying that he couldn’t be happier to get the award in the first game he batted.

The Presentation ceremony…

Earlier in the game, Paul Stirling won the toss and opted to bowl first under a fairly sunny Malahide sky. The frontline pacers couldn’t do much for Ireland and Joshua Little in particular was off his game. India started off quickly before losing a couple of wickets in succession but then came a big stand between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson worth 71 runs with the former notching up a half-century as well. The innings did slow down a bit as Barry McCarthy and Benjamin White got both the set batters out. Rinku Singh on his first-ever outing with the bat on the big stage put on a show alongside Shivam Dube and the pair of them smoked the ball to all parts of the ground to take India over the 180-run mark. Coming to the chase, Ireland were always one big stand away from really challenging the Indian total but unfortunately for the home side, that partnership never came.

Ireland were once again let down by their batting performance in the Powerplay. Skipper Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker both fell early without even getting off the mark and Harry Tector couldn’t do much either. Former skipper Andy Balbirnie however played a gem of an inning and had a bit of support from the likes of Curtis Campher and George Dockrell. Balbirnie fell on a valiant 72 and they lost a few quick wickets which made it improbable for the lower order to take them over the line. There were a few lusty blows from Mark Adair but the hosts were well beaten in the end.

There it is, a young Indian side has rounded off a solid display and have clinched the three-match T20I series 2-0 with a game to spare. India had the runs on the board and were able to pick up wickets at crucial times which helped them stay in front and get the job done pretty easily in the end. Prasidh Krishna was on fire in the early overs and picked up a couple of wickets and then Ravi Bishnoi picked up one more in the final over of the Powerplay. This put India in command but there was a bit of a fightback from the opposition. The likes of Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah were able to come on in the latter stages and pick up wickets in heaps with the skipper even bowling a wicket-maiden final over.

19.6 overs (4 Runs) Four Byes! Exceptional stuff by Jasprit Bumrah, he finishes the game with a wicket-maiden! Bowls the off-cutter this time, fuller in length, outside off, Joshua Little heaves across the line but connects with thin air. Sanju Samson behind the wicket misses as well and the ball trickles to the fence. India win by 33 runs and seal the series!

19.5 overs (0 Run) On a yorker length, on middle, Joshua Little jams it out back to the bowler.

Joshua Little is in next.

UPDATE – 10.58 pm IST (5.28 pm GMT) – Good news! Right then, play will resume at 11.00 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). Also, no overs have been lost.

UPDATE – 10.42 pm IST (5.12 pm GMT) – Oops! It has started to rain again! The trend of a wicket bringing about rain has continued even in the ODI series. The ground staff rush in with the covers and have now covered the entire square. The rain has come at the wrong time for the West Indies who were into India’s tail and were just two wickets away from bowling them out. Just as we type, the rain has subsided and the ground staff have removed the covers as well. Stick around as resumption is not far away.

37.3 overs (0 Run) Ouch, that must have hurt! Alzarri Joseph bowls a quick short ball and angles it into the body. Umran Malik tries to get out of the way by backing away but the pace is just too much and he gets hit on the body.

Thakur gets pushed on the back foot as he looks to block but gets beaten for pace and the ball goes past the inside edge to hit the back pad. Thakur has to depart.

37.1 overs (0 Run) Starts right on the money as he bowls a quick fuller one on middle. Shardul Thakur manages to jam it out toward mid-wicket.

Drinks Break! India find themselves in a lot of trouble at 167-7. The onus is on Shardul Thakur to bat with the tail and take the visitors to a respectable total on what is a tough wicket to bat on. On the other hand, West Indies have done an exceptional job with the ball but the job is not yet over. They cannot afford to be complacent and need to wrap the innings as quickly as possible. Shai Hope now brings Alzarri Joseph (5-0-27-0) back into the attack.

Short and outside off, Shardul Thakur backs away and hits it to the left of Shimron Hetmyer at cover but the latter makes a good diving stop. Thakur sets off for the single but Kuldeep is slow to respond. In the end, Hetmyer wasn’t able to throw it with the required speed accuracy while off-balanced and Kuldeep made it through.

Right then, 270 runs needed for India to win and seal the series. The target is not a big one considering the pitch conditions and spin might not even play a big role during the chase but the batting has let India down so far which gives Australia more than half a chance to get the win. Let’s see if India can turn up well and clinch the series by chasing this down. The run chase is coming up soon.

The Aussies started off with flying colors but Hardik Pandya changed the momentum and shifted that in favor of India. The hosts controlled the middle phase as well with the spinners bossing play. For India, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav were their best bowlers as they scalped 3 wickets each. They were well supported by Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj who took a couple of wickets each and overall, India will be pretty content with that effort.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Aussies started off sensationally as the two openers came out with a positive mindset and scored at a blistering pace. The duo of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head scored 68 for the first wicket but the middle order failed to capitalize on a brilliant platform laid by the openers. The introduction of Hardik Pandya into the attack helped the hosts as he changed the game by scalping 3 wickets in quick succession. The lower middle order along with the tail then scored some crucial runs and helped the Aussies to post a total they could fight for. Most of the Aussie batters did get starts but no one could step up and convert that into a big one.

A good fightback from India after a difficult start right at the top restricts Australia to a total of 269 runs for the loss of 10 wickets. Inspired bowling changes and a clinical fielding performance helps India to restrict the Aussies for not too many on the board in this series decider.

The Australian opening pair of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head also make their way out to the middle. Mohammad Shami has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. Let’s play…

We are minutes away from the start of the game but first, the officials and players of both teams walk out for their respective national anthems. It will be the national anthem of Australia first, followed by the Indian national anthem.

Mitchell Marsh is up for a quick chat. He says that it is always a pleasure to come back to India. Mentions that it is going to be a ripper of a series as the top two teams are going against each other. Adds that he is playing as a pure batter and is still two weeks away from bowling. Tells that he did not look at the pitch, but feels it will play out good.

Australia’s skipper, Steven Smith says that they weren’t really sure about what they would have done so it is a good toss to lose. Adds that they will try and get used to the conditions as much as possible and try a few different combinations keeping the World Cup in mind. Mentions that they played some really good cricket in the backend of the Test series and hopes that they continue the form. Informs that Alex Carey is sick and Josh Inglis replaces him and Mitchell Marsh comes into the team.

Hardik Pandya, the captain of India says that they will bowl first. Adds that the wicket looks good and the dew might be a factor later. Tells that they have been batting well in the first innings and want to test themselves to chase down the total. Mentions that he had got some time off to prepare and work on his skills. Says that this series is important for them to prepare for the World Cup. Informs that they have gone with four pacers including himself and Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are their two spinners for this game.

Australia (Playing XI) – Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith (C), Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis (WK), Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, and Adam Zampa.

India (Playing XI) – Ishan Kishan (WK), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (C), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammad Shami.

TOSS – The two captains are out in the middle and it is Steven Smith who calls it incorrectly. India have opted to BOWL first.

PITCH REPORT – Murali Kartik is pitchside. He says that the dimensions to the square of the wicket are around 62-63 meters and down the ground, it is about 70 meters. Ajit Agarkar joins him and says that there is an even covering of grass and the pitch will play well, there will be a bit of bounce and not much dew. Kartik says that in recent times teams chasing have won but all in all it is a belter of a pitch.

India, on the other hand, are a formidable side in their own backyard. Rohit Sharma will not be available for this game, but Shubman Gill will look to continue his sublime form. KL Rahul is part of the squad and it will be interesting to see whether he plays or the home side goes with Ishan Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will be crucial in the middle order while Shardul Thakur gives them a nice balance with both bat and ball. They will want to maintain their good home record and start this series with a victory. Stay tuned for toss and other updates.

Steven Smith will be back in the skipper’s role for the Aussies in ODIs as Pat Cummins misses out on the white-ball series as well. Australia have a long list of all-rounders in the squad that will add depth to the batting order and variety in the bowling attack. Their top order also looks in good shape while the addition of Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh makes them even stronger. Mitchell Starc will lead their bowling attack here as well alongside Sean Abbott, while Adam Zampa comes in to take responsibility for their spin department. They look like a solid team on paper and will be tough to beat for the hosts.

Hello and a warm welcome folks! India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 2-1 series result in the Tests and also qualified for the WTC final. Now, both teams are set to face off in a 3-match ODI series with the first game being played at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Both teams are on a winning run and will look to continue that. Australia have won 9 of their last 10 matches while India have lost only 2 of their last 10 ODIs. As both teams look evenly matched, we can expect a thrilling contest.
