Money-saving challenges are a fun and effective way to beef up your savings account. It’s a challenge where you set a goal to save a certain amount of money over a specified period. You can participate in a money-saving challenge alone or with a group of friends.

These 17 challenges make saving fun and will help you reach your financial goals!

1. The 52-Week Money Challenge

With the 52-week money challenge, you save $1 the first week and keep adding a dollar each week. The entire amount at the end of the year will be $1,378.

You can switch this up by increasing your savings if your income accommodates such changes.

2. 100 Envelope Challenge

For the 100 envelope challenge, you save an equivalent amount of money in a labeled envelope for 100 days.

It means the highest savings is $100, and the lowest is $1. If the envelope is marked 50, you put in $50; if 2, you put in $2.

3. $5 Savings Challenge

If you are looking for a money challenge that will save you a significant amount without strain on your purse, try the $5 daily challenge.

For three months, a daily savings of $5 will add up to $450. Try keeping up with it for a year, and you will have $1,825 in savings.

Another version of this challenge is to save every $5 bill you get. The amount you end up with will vary by person, but you should be able to save a few hundred dollars.

4. The Spare Change Challenge

Do you have spare change lying around? Or do you get change from your grocery purchases? You can save it. Get a piggy bank for coins, a money envelope, or a money box for bills, and start saving.

Depending on your purchases, your spare change can add up to a significant amount quickly.

5. 26-Week Savings Challenge

The 26-week challenge, or a biweekly savings plan, has you save money every other week. The catch with this challenge is you must increase the amount you save.

Save $4 for the first two weeks and add $4 for the next two weeks. At the end of the year, you’ll have $1,404.

6. 365-Day Nickel Challenge

You do this savings challenge for 365 days. On the first day, you save a single nickel – 5 cents, and the goal is to keep adding a nickel daily. Counting the nickels saves $18.40 on the last day.

At the end of the year, you have $3,339.75. How amazing is that?

7. Weather Wednesday Savings Challenge

The weather savings challenge is so fun and unpredictable. Every Wednesday is a day to save, and the amount you save depends on the weather!

Check the local weather update on your mobile device or the news and add the exact amount to your savings account.

8. $1 Savings Challenge

Every time you get a $1 bill, keep it. To get the most out of this savings challenge, you need to prioritize using cash. If you spend primarily using credit cards, you won’t have much savings.

9. No Spend Challenge

If you are an impulsive spender, try no-spend challenge, although it might be difficult on your first try. It works by picking a spending category and not spending money for a month. This could mean no eating out or no buying clothes. You can change the category every month or stick with the same one.

10. The Penny Challenge

The penny challenge is a fun and easy way to build up extra money, especially when you have no savings allowance. Start the first day with a penny and add one daily.

After 365 days, you would have saved $667.95!

11. The Round-up Challenge

This challenge is exciting.

When you make any purchase that isn’t a round figure online or in-store, round it up and save the extra. For example, if you buy a pair of slippers at Walmart for $9.45, round it up to $10 and save the $0.55.

The trick to making this one work is saving the round-up. If you pay in cash, you can save the change. But if you pay using a credit or debit card, you must manually transfer the $0.55 from your checking account to a savings account.

12. 1% Salary Saving Challenge

As the name implies, you set aside 1% of your annual salary to save. For example, if you earn $60,000 annually, 1% of that will be $600, which means you will save $50 each month.

As usual, you can improvise and make it 10% instead. Just determine how much you can save without negatively impacting your budget.

13. Coffee Break Challenge

Are you addicted to Starbucks? Try saving money instead of buying coffee. Whenever you crave Starbucks or make coffee at home, put some money into savings.

Your savings can easily add up to $1,000 yearly, depending on how much you love coffee.

14. 30-Day Minimalist Challenge

For the minimalist challenge, get rid of a single item you do not need daily. You can sell these items on Etsy, eBay, or Craigslist and save the money you earn.

Alternatively, you can donate the items to a local charity in town. If you go this route, save the donation receipt, as you can write this off on your taxes, saving you money.

15. The $20 Savings Challenge

This savings challenge can be 52 weeks, a month, or half a year, depending on your savings goals.

If you set aside $20 weekly, you will have $1,040 in one year. If your budget doesn’t allow you to save $20 a week, you can save every two weeks or once a month.

16. The $33.33 Challenge

If you can spare as much as $33.33 daily, try saving it for 30 days. Keeping $33.33 per day for 30 days will get you $999.90! If this is too much for you to put in daily, how about adjusting it to suit your income?

For example, $33.33 every three days will be $333 monthly. If you keep this up for the whole year, you will have $3,996 in 12 months!

17. Monthly Savings Challenge

This challenge has you pick an amount to save each month. It works best for people who have a variable budget. For example, during a slow month, your goal could be to save $25; during a good month, you choose to save $200. And, because it is entirely customizable, anyone can use it.

26. StepBet

StepBet pedometer app incorporates friendly challenge groups to motivate you to set walking fitness goals and achieve them in exchange for financial rewards. Create an account, determine your step goals, and start walking.

Top 3 Side Hustle Myths: Creating Passive Income With Millionaire Nick Wood | Wealth of Geeks

The Instagram world of entrepreneurs has exposed us all to seemingly limitless lifestyle opportunities, where people can make money with only an internet connection. The digital age we live in is a good escape from the constraints of the traditional office job and a lucrative route to financial and personal freedom.

Still, despite the many success stories online, such as Gary Vaynerchuk, Steven Bartlett, Grant Cardone, and others, many tales of false promises lead only to disappointment.

So, which one is it? Is this new wave of digital side hustles led by Internet-famous entrepreneurs legit? Or is there more to the story?

New Wave of Digital Side Hustles

According to rank and rent digital real estate expert Nick Wood, the proof is in the pudding.

“There is an inherent value in learning how to make money from someone who has done it. The cream will always rise to the top and the truth will always come out,” says Wood. “I’ve met a lot of the guys doing this on a massive scale and they are the real deal. The guys who are selling snake oil fizzle out as quickly as they came in.”

Wood also emphasizes that the outcome of purchasing an online course or paying for a consultation with a digital entrepreneur depends on a person’s hunger to learn, ambition to put it to work, and creativity to recognize the opportunity.

As he puts it, “I say it all the time: All you need is Wi-Fi and a whole lot of hustle. Once you get your foot in the door by learning how to monetize a niche in this digital space, it becomes an industry and market like any other in the world. If you go in looking to learn and build, you can find success. If you go in without any strategy hoping to get rich overnight, you are likely going to have a negative experience and probably lose your investment of time and money.”

Wood adds: “It’s as true as it ever was: If it feels too good to be true, it likely is. Anything worth having takes time and effort to learn and build.”

Dubbed the “King of Digital Real Estate” by his online community, Nick Wood is an entrepreneur and rank and rent expert who built a multi 7-figure digital real estate empire online. However, achieving financial success for himself was only the beginning, as he distilled his money-making methods and best practices into a thriving online course community with a mission to teach others how to create passive income online.

As founder and CEO of Digital Landlords, Wood has now helped over 400 students from across the globe learn how to build simple websites and rent them out to business owners looking for new leads. Many of his clients are now earning from $10,000 a month all the way up to $45,000 a month in passive income.

Nick points out that his program contains everything a person needs to know to make money buying and selling digital real estate, with no sales or technical experience required. From picking the right niche in the right market to building websites and ranking them with SEO practices, Wood’s tried-and-tested sales strategies are accomplishing his goal of helping people escape the rat race.

“It does take hard work, but if you put in the time and do it right, you’re much more likely to be making great money that’s not tied to a dead-end job that is sucking your soul and keeping you away from investing in your dreams and spending time with your loved ones,” says Wood.

With that in mind, we asked Nick Wood to highlight several common misconceptions we’ve all heard about entrepreneurs and their money hustles in the digital space.

Myth 1: “I Have To Take a Leap of Faith and Quit My 9-To-5 Job To Start a New Hustle.”

Wood explains that many people mistakenly believe they should quit their job to go all in on their laptop/phone hustle.

While dedicating oneself to the grind and putting in more hours sounds like an excellent idea for growth, the reality is different. Nick shares how the beauty of the side hustle is that it can be done from anywhere at any time.

“Success does not happen overnight. Rome was not built in a day. Keep your day job while you learn the ropes of your new hustle and put in your hours. You’re under no obligation to let your new hustle become your master. It’s supposed to be the other way around.”

Wood recommends keeping your primary source of income for at least a couple of months until you start seeing returns on your side hustle.

“You’ll know when it’s time to give your two weeks’ notice and go all in on your passive income stream. The consistent deposits into your account from all your hard work will let you know when that is.”

Myth 2: “I Don’t Have _________, so I Won’t Have The Same Success He/She Did.”

“So many people fail before they even begin by telling themselves that they don’t have enough knowledge, money, followers, connections, time, patience–the list of excuses is always so long with people who are scared to start. But that’s the only key: you just need to start. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck in the rat race your whole career,” says Nick Wood.

According to Wood, Digital Landlords provides students with not only the scripts and curriculum needed to succeed in creating and selling digital assets, it also provides a supportive community tailored to encourage and motivate students.

“This is the best business model on the Internet because it’s about as equal opportunity as you can get. All you need is an Internet connection and a work ethic. Do not sell yourself short. Invest in yourself to give yourself the type of income and job security that is hard to come by in the traditional workforce.”

Myth 3: “Digital Real Estate? Sounds Complicated and Difficult.”

Nick admits he understands this way of thinking.

“I’ve gotten used to the fact that no matter how hard I try to explain rank and rent digital real estate in a simple way, some people’s eyes are going to just gloss over before I even finish,” he laughs. But don’t let the jargon fool you.

Wood says the good news is that his way of earning passive income isn’t complex at all – in fact, it’s quite simple when compared to other business models in the online space. It only costs his students about $50 to buy a domain, build a website, and host it, which is the first step in owning a digital asset that can net them thousands of dollars a month passively.

“The margins are insane and that’s why I am always referring to it as the best business model on the Internet.”

Overall, digital entrepreneurs like Nick Wood are reshaping the modern workforce and creating an alternate route for those looking to develop a career path where they don’t have to choose between making lots of money and climbing the corporate ladder. The globalization of the Internet and the countless opportunities in the digital space are ever-shifting, instantly creating new and innovative ways to make money online.

Those with the ambition and dedication to learning new skills and creating streams of passive income through the Internet can succeed.

Building wealth through dropshipping, Amazon automation, lead generation, search engine optimization, and online sales, to name a few, are viable and potentially lucrative spaces. Speaking from experience through his time building Digital Landlords into a worldwide network of students learning rank and rent digital real estate, Nick Wood says that while it does take hard work and time, the shining benefit of working for oneself as a digital entrepreneur is that there is no ceiling.

Your earning potential is only capped by one’s willingness to get out there and make it happen.

The UK’s Gambling White Paper Explained | Wealth of Geeks

For the first time in nearly two decades, gambling is set to come under the legislative spotlight in the UK.

The UK gambling industry, the world’s largest and most mature market, has been in a state of flux for the past few years. The growth of online casino games and the continued success of sports betting has seen gambling conquer and maintain new demographics of punters.

Since November 2020, however, the country’s government has been undertaking a comprehensive sector review. It is shortly due to publish its findings in a White Paper, which will likely shape future laws and potentially cause sleepless nights for operating executives.

The document could have massive implications for the £10bn industry, so it’s essential to understand what it could mean for operators and players alike.

What Is The Gambling White Paper?

In simple terms, it’s a lengthy document of policies that form the government’s proposed regulation of online gambling across the country.

It constitutes an update of the 2005 Gambling Act introduced by the then Labour government which established the rules for the industry before the introduction and proliferation of smartphone technology.

The paper will begin by outlining current regulations and propose policy changes for those offering gambling services in the UK. These will include, but not be limited to, ensuring consumers are protected, reducing problem gambling levels, making it easier to enforce payment regulations, and preventing money laundering.

Whitehall insiders contend that the paper could also ban ‘VIP packages’ on betting sites, pressure football’s Premier League to end teams’ front-of-shirt sponsorship from gambling companies, and legally force the hand of gambling operators to allocate 1% of gross yields to gambling harms care; the equivalent of £140m a year. These changes can potentially alter the entire industry, from how people see gambling advertised to how users gamble online, and even when it comes to comparing the best online casinos.

Checks and Balances

Indeed the most significant and complex issue the White Paper is looking to tackle is to monitor the fine line of spurring gambling to the point it becomes problematic. Some measures to achieve this include introducing a cap on online slot game stakes between £2-5 and £125 on monthly losses or £500 on annual losses, measures that will directly impact operators and affiliates.

The most controversial element, rumored to still be in the debate among MPs, is the ‘affordability check.’ Though details remain unclear to date, it is suggested that certain would-be punters deemed to be gambling excessively could have to submit financial information including bank statements, payslips, and P60s, before being allowed to play.

In an opinion editorial in Politics Home this month, former Labour MP-turned-CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council, Michael Dugher, described the checks as “intrusive” and “low-level.”

“The millions of punters who enjoy a bet perfectly safely and responsibly are rightly hostile to the introduction of blanket, intrusive, low level so-called ‘affordability checks’ – such as those demanded by anti-gambling prohibitionists,” he writes. “We support big changes in the White Paper, including using technology to support enhanced spending checks online, but we think these need to be background financial risk checks and that they need to be carefully targeted towards problem gamblers and those at risk.”

Dugher also claims that, ironically, the checks would drive bettors away from established bookmakers onto the so-called ‘black market’.

Indeed, a February survey of 3,500 members of horse racing news outlet, Racing TV, found that 15% said they bet or knew someone who bets with an unregulated bookmaker.

In addition, another 80% said they would not like to see mandatory limits imposed by bookmakers. In comparison, a shocking 92% said they would consider a different bookmaker which did not require personal information before customers were allowed to bet.

Somewhere down the line, affordability checking in some format seems inevitable. A study in 2019 shared with The Guardian showed that a relatively small fraction of customers is responsible for most deposits with online gambling firms – 83% of deposits were from 2% of customers in one case.

In real terms, a 2021 parliamentary report found that three-fifths of industry profits come from 5% of users who are either problem gamblers or at risk of becoming so, according to a 2021 parliamentary report.

That said, a Gambling Commission study showed that about 0.2% of British adults were problem gamblers in the year to March 2022, with moderate and low-risk gamblers numbering 0.9% and 1.4%, respectively.

What’s Next?

Another hurdle is that the checks are very hard to implement properly in the United Kingdom, where many laws protect players’ privacy.

As a result, the parliamentary process to exhume problems from the proposed checks will click into gear after the paper’s publication, with consultations expected from operators, banks, the Gambling Commission, and the Information Commissioner’s Office, the data watchdog.

Industry figures like Dugher’s concerns around what may change for the industry are with good cause, however, as the market has already shown to be especially vulnerable to legal process changes.

In 2020, a sector-wide £1bn share price plunge was triggered due to a late-2019 recommendation from a cross-party MP group to impose maximum stake limits on fixed-odds betting terminals.

And, while trying to responsibly keep profit and player numbers on the up at home, many bookies are pushing resources into a second frontier; the US.

The world’s second-largest gambling market is, in part, relaxing as more states begin to alter their law to allow online casino play and sports betting. While some remain resolute that gambling will remain illegal for the immediate and long-term future, UK-based operators are keen to maximize the potential returns involvement in the US could bring.

Hyperbole aside, the coming months and years will be transformative for the UK gambling industry. The long-awaited White Paper has been delayed and is now slow-cooked to set law protections for players to avoid addiction and potential financial ruin.

What remains to be seen is how restrictive the measures will be, if operators can retain and entice new players while adhering to the government’s ruleset, and whether gamblers will continue to play by their rules.

The Best Studio Ghibli Movies Ranked From Best To Worst | Wealth of Geeks

Studio Ghibli is among the most outstanding animation production studios in history. Renowned for its glorious animated films, both 2D and the occasional 3D, Studio Ghibli’s success is one that many other studios and creators have chased for decades.

The success of Studio Ghibli primarily sits on the shoulders of Hayao Miyazaki, the director and creator of some of the finest work from the production company. Studio Ghibli has made 23 animated feature films in the decades since its first release.

Here are all of the Studio Ghibli movies, ranked from best to worst. Most of these films are among the best-animated movies ever made, so deciding on their ranking required an examination of their overall animation, story structure, action, characters, and writing.

1. Spirited Away

Spirited Away has all of the qualities associated with Studio Ghibli to the highest degree. Chihiro is a young girl who ends up in a magical realm and must find her parents to escape it. It runs a range of emotions, making you laugh one moment and tear up the next.

Made in 2001, its animation holds up unbelievably well, looking much better than some recent animated films. The scale and visual quality of the dazzling world that Chihiro ends up in are instantly memorable. That is all before considering the characters and writing that are among the best that Studio Ghibli has ever done.

2. Grave of The Fireflies

Grave of The Fireflies

Though many Studio Ghibli movies deal with heavy themes, none are like Grave of the Fireflies. This is the darkest and most heartbreaking movie on this list, but also the best-written at the same time. The story of two siblings surviving after a World War II bombing is riveting, filled with gruesome imagery, and a movie you will never forget.

3. Kiki’s Delivery Service

Kikis Delivery Service

Kiki’s Delivery Service is the ultimate coming-of-age storyline from the Japanese studio that nailed this aspect. Following Kiki, a young witch girl, as she completes errands around her town, it is magical from top to bottom. Fun for all ages and filled with action well ahead of its time, this is one of the best Studio Ghibli films.

4. Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke

Considered the Star Wars of the anime world, Princess Mononoke has a scale and action-packed nature, unlike any other Studio Ghibli film. The environments are massive and wondrous, the characters are instant favorites, and the action is on a whole new level.

This is also one of the most rewatchable films from the studio.

5. The Tale of The Princess Kaguya

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya

One of the best folklore tales from Japanese culture was finally recreated in the most impressive way possible with The Tale of the Princess Kaguya. Though the animation is a love-it-or-hate-it situation, the storytelling and writing are on a new level. There is a reason this is considered an instant classic, despite being made in 2013.

6. Only Yesterday

Only Yesterday

One of the most beautiful and stirring films in the studio’s works, Only Yesterday took far too long to make it stateside but was well worth the wait. An exploration of a burnt-out office worker’s mental state as she explores the Japanese countryside and sees what could have been.

7. My Neighbor Totoro

My Neighbor Totoro

The inspiration for the company’s mascot, My Neighbor Totoro is among the best movies to come out of the studio. It follows two young girls as they explore their new neighborhood and befriend the adorable but massive creature, Totoro.

Cute, funny, and heartwarming, this is an unforgettable exploration of the imaginative power of children.

8. Howl’s Moving Castle

There are many comparisons between Disney and Studio Ghibli, and Howl’s Moving Castle is perhaps the most glaring similarity between Disney’s animated films. The story of a girl cursed by an evil witch, it follows a young man named Howl as he uses his flying castle to track down and turn the girl young and beautiful again.

It has a classic feel, with some of the best animation and action sequences from a Studio Ghibli movie.

9. Castle in The Sky

Castle in The Sky

This is the movie that started Studio Ghibli’s eventual domination of the Japanese animated film space. It began and was arguably among the best tropes of an aviation-themed adventure filled with mystery, intrigue, twists, and plenty of heart-pounding action.

10. Whisper of The Heart

Whisper of The Heart

The only film led by the immensely talented Yoshifumi Kondo, Whisper of the Heart, showed that Miyazaki wasn’t the only one who could make such phenomenal films. Following a girl obsessed with her possible soulmate, she goes on an adventure with a talking cat.

It has all the trappings of what makes a Studio Ghibli film great while also feeling romantically driven in a welcome way.

11. The Secret World of Arrietty

The Secret World of Arrietty

One of the most underrated films from Studio Ghibli, this 2010 movie follows a boy who encounters a tiny girl and is enveloped in her secret world. With some of the best modern animation from the studio and surprisingly emotional storytelling, it is well worth a watch.

12. Ponyo

Ponyo

Ponyo is like a modern Japanese take on The Little Mermaid, quirks and all. About a goldfish princess who meets a young boy, their relationship and their attempts to help the titular Ponyo’s dream of becoming human are ridiculous, magical, and fun.

13. When Marnie Was There

When Marnie Was There

When Marnie Was There is one of the quietest and most reflective films of the brilliant Studio Ghibli studio. While it is by no means the best around, it has a gentle approach to the intimate relationship between two friends who encounter one another.

The lead girl, played by Hailee Steinfeld, is the only one able to see a blonde girl she encounters. Their friendship is moving and the heart of this thoughtful piece.

14. The Cat Returns

The Cat Returns

Oddly enough, one of the few returns for a Studio Ghibli film, The Cat Returns, is a spin-off of another feature film. It explores many familiar aspects of a Ghibli film, like the transition from mundane life to a magical world and the strong relationships between characters.

15. Nausicaä of The Valley of The Wind

Nausicaa of The Valley of The Wind

Though this wasn’t, technically, made by Studio Ghibli, it was the first film from Hayao Miyazaki to kickstart the beloved animation style and fantastical settings that would be the premise of some of the best-animated movies ever made.

It is whimsical with a bold premise of a boy trying to save his post-apocalyptic fantasy world from its devastating state.

16. Porco Rosso

Porco Rosso

Porco Rosso is one of the more bizarre films from Studio Ghibli, following a man turned into a pig-like humanoid. This is mainly the background for an over-the-top aviation adventure through the skies. With a lot more action than the next movie on this list, it soars well into the hearts of some Ghibli fans.

17. The Wind Rises

The Wind Rises

There is a lot to love about the then-supposed final film of Hayao Miyazaki in 2013. The Wind Rises is the story of Jiro Horikoshi, a Japanese engineer who created a new plane model. The story is bittersweet, with wide-sweeping set pieces in the sky and tender moments between the smaller cast.

18. Ocean Waves

Ocean Waves

Ocean Waves takes a unique approach for a Studio Ghibli film, centering around a love triangle between two best friends and the girl they like. This quieter film works well emotionally and heartfelt, even if the story structure feels noticeably older than other movies.

19. From up on Poppy Hill

From up on Poppy Hill

This is a nostalgic modern film from Studio Ghibli that follows a group of teens as they try to keep their clubhouse intact. It has some of the same tropes as Pom Poko but with less creepy character designs. The relationship between the characters carries this otherwise predictable film.

20. Pom Poko

Pom Poko

Pom Poko is one of the few Studio Ghibli movies that may disturb you because of the main cast. Following a group of magical shapeshifter tanuki (raccoons), it shows their conflict against the people trying to destroy their lands.

The story is fine, the animation is decent if you can ignore the character designs, and the tone is nothing special but still good.

21. My Neighbors, the Yamadas

My Neighbors the Yamadas

My Neighbors the Yamadas is far from the classic Studio Ghibli movie. Instead of the action-packed fantastical wonderlands that other films on this list are, this is, by and large, the most mundane storyline you could find.

It is a feature-length movie about a traditional Japanese family and their everyday lives. While nothing extraordinary happens in the film, it has a relaxed, colorful approach to its animation and a goofy tone that at least makes it worth a watch once.

22. Tales From Earthsea

Tales From Earthsea

While not a terrible movie, Tales from Earthsea is far from the fantastical showstopper it could have been. Based on a fantasy novel, this could have been an unforgettable adventure following a group of magical characters trying to stop an evil threat. Instead, it is a mediocre film with some at least solid animation.

23. Earwig and The Witch

Earwig and The Witch

Earwig and the Witch is the only movie released by Studio Ghibli that is unequivocally a bad film. There are few redeemable factors for this predictable storyline about a young girl who discovers her witch powers.

This movie feels like a 3D clone of far better films like Kiki’s Delivery Service, but without any of the qualities that made it so good. This is worsened by lackluster 3D animation, which shows why Studio Ghibli should stick to its signature 2D animation style for now.

15 Shocking Anime Horror Moments That Make You Need a Vacation | Wealth of Geeks

Shocks and scares are not just the hallmark of the horror genre. Whether horror, comedy, action, or drama, mouth-dropping chilling moments abound, making it difficult to fall asleep. Familiar shadows take on sinister qualities. Animes are no different. They have haunting scenes that are unforgettable. Here are some memorable scary moments in anime that’ll make you search for a vacation in the sun.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni And a Well-timed Jump Scare

There are many shocking moments in the original 2006 Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni. The first episode’s opening is classic, setting the tone for the series despite slice-of-life parts creeping in. However, the most horrifying moment looks like it leaped from The Ring or Juon and nestled in this anime. It occurs in the last episode, “Wish,” in the Watanagashi-hen arc after Keiichi winds up in the hospital. After Oishi departs, a bloody Mion crawls out from under Keichi’s bed with a hammer and long nails. When this series aired, it was nightmare-inducing, but this moment takes the bloody frightful cake.

Yamishibai

This bite-sized horror anthology series, Yamishibai, delivers all the chills in two-and-a-half-minute episodes in its first season. Based on Japanese urban legends and using a picture-story animation style, episode 5, “The Next Floor,” is a cautionary tale of terror about appreciating what you have. After using work to escape spending time with his wife and son in a department store on his son’s birthday, he boards the elevator wishing he could be alone. As weird happenings occur, he finally escapes back to the sales floor. But no one is there, and as the lights turn off bit by bit, the elevator girl looks at him one last time before abandoning him to his “time alone.” If vast darkness in an unknown place chills you, this one is one of the worst and unforgettable.

Junji Ito Takes A Disturbing Look at Payback

Junji Ito Maniac Japanese Tales of the Macabre

Junji Ito is famous for horror in anime and manga. Perfectly at home in fantastical, macabre horror or chills lurking underneath people’s amiable exteriors. The “Bully” episode in Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre falls into the latter. A girl, Kuriko, befriends a little boy, Naoya, in a park. It quickly turns toxic and violent as Kuriko torments Naoya, but he keeps returning. Now adults, they reunite, and the situation turns sinister and tragic. The most horrifying moment is seeing Kuriko approach her son dressed in her old uniform that no longer fits, hair in pigtails with makeup that grotesquely captures her character.

Corpse Party’s Hands of Prayer

Corpse Party Tortured Souls

Corpse Party: Tortured Souls is gory and horrifying. Imagine performing a charm to wish a friend farewell and winding up in a school from hell. But through all the gore and death, the most traumatic, memorable moment is at the end of the final episode. When Naomi, Ayumi, and Satoshi use their recite and use their charms to return to their school, Satoshi doesn’t realize his slip is another group. They hold hands, but Naomi and Ayumi are there with only Satoshi’s hands. The spine-chilling music combined with their frozen expressions as they stare down makes a vacation in the sun look all the sweeter.

When It Rains, You Pour…Blood

Speaking of schools, let’s continue with a deadly classroom in this world. In Another, at least one person per month dies in Class 3-3 (9th grade, Class 3) if a dead person returns to the class. Deaths occur Final Destination style, and the first death lets viewers know this is a deadly class. In episode 3, “Bone Work,” classmate Yukari rushes to leave school. Running down the steps with her umbrella in hand—the one with the metal tips—she slips. That umbrella, meant to shelter her from the rain, leaves her drenched in blood as the metal impales her throat.

Ecchi Destruction

High School of the Dead

High School of the Dead blends zombie horror plus perverted angles of women’s bodies. Students flee in every direction when a zombie outbreak reaches their high school. A pair of friends, Misuzu and Toshimi, run hand in hand, vowing to stick together. However, that tune changes key when a zombie grabs Toshimi. Not only does Misuzu not help, but she kicks Toshimi down the stairs. Talk about kicking a friend when they’re down; the speed at which one friend betrays the other leaves you shell-shocked.

Heave Ho Heave Ho, It’s Off to Hell You Go

Hell Girl

Who doesn’t love revenge and justice? But in Hell Girl, there’s a cost. Scary moments are one thing, but ones with horror and guilt are another. Yaoyi hands out fliers with her parents for her missing sister, Sumire. Unfortunately, Sumire’s vengeful spirit cannot summon Hell Girl. Yaoyi doesn’t have the rage and bitterness to access the site, so after falling into a fountain, Sumire shows Yaoyi what happened to her after a man abducted her. Seeing the mark later on Yaoyi’s chest, signifying that the man who killed her sister went to hell and that she will also go to hell when she dies, adds a pained layer to this tragedy. It’s her final punishment for leaving Sumire after they argued that fateful day.

From Slice-of-Life To Parts Galore

Deadman Wonderland

Deadman Wonderland is underrated, delivering a fascinating story and shocking horror. Ganta and his classmate discuss a trip to the famed Deadman Wonderland, where prisoners play deadly games in front of a live audience. The shock is almost immediate, as Ganta sees a masked individual floating outside after a lighthearted chat with friends. One explosion later, Ganta regains consciousness to see blood and parts splattered everywhere, and his friend, Mimi’s head, held in the killer’s hand. It’s a hell of a way to introduce a series, and one this series delivered to shocking effect.

Mom Gets Devoured

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan has no shortage of shocking moments, but killing the lead’s mother in the first episode sets the tone for all that comes after. When Titans enter Eren’s hometown after the Colossal Titan destroys Wall Maria, Eren and Mikasa rush to rescue his mom, Carla, trapped underneath their collapsed house. Hannes, a member of the Garrison Unit, arrives but soon realizes Carla is correct, and he needs to grab the two kids and run. But, as they flee, Eren can only watch helplessly as a titan pulls his mom from the building, twists her like they’re wringing a wet towel, and devours her. It’s an unforgettable moment that captures the essence of this cruel world.

Who’s The Demons?

Devilman Crybaby

Devilman Crybaby is as much a social commentary about inhumane behavior as it is about demons vs. people. After becoming part demon, Akira uses his new powers to protect people. Unfortunately, as news of monsters spread, people also go on a vicious rampage. This leads to the tragic, horrifying moment where people swarm and butcher Akira’s friends, including his love interest, Miki. Unfortunately, when Akira rushes in his devilman form to save them, he’s too late. He sees people cheering in front of a fire holding Miki’s head on a stick. If that’s not enough of a gut punch, the end credits track adds pained fuel to the fire.

If Barbie Was Alive

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied is not for the faint of heart. Graphic violence and nudity run rampant in this series, with enough tragic backstories to crush your faith in humanity. Lucy is a Diclonius with two catlike ears atop her head. She also has invisible arms called “vectors.” These incorporeal arms can rip bodies apart from the inside out. Caged Lucy walks and starts the long trek of escaping the armed facility when a goofball gopher assistant trips in front of her. Lucy twists her head off like a doll, then uses her headless corpse to shield herself from a swarm of bullets. Jaw-dropping, this shocking moment is just one in this wild series.

Dead From the Waist Down

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen is all about pulse-pounding yell-at-the-screen action and side-splitting comedy. Yet horror still creeps in. “Narrow-minded” marks a shift, letting you know things can turn dark instantly. After Itadori leaves Junpei and Junpei’s mom, Nagi, at their home, Nagi awakens and sees Sukuna’s cursed finger on her table. A grotesque monster lurks behind her. Next, a voice-over details discovering Nagi’s body in bed as the anime shows her body covered in a blanket. As the blanket’s pulled back, her body is gone from the waist down. Just a bunch of ice packs gathered there. Sometimes imagining the horror is worse than seeing it.

Happy Sugar Life

Happy Sugar Life

Happy Sugar Life is a deceptive title about obsession and how kids suffer at the hands of the adults around them. High-schooler Satou appears as the typical adorable, happy-go-lucky teen. But the love of her life is a little girl living with her, Shio. The end of the first episode cements this series as terrifying. After Shio falls asleep, a dead-eyed Satou enters a room with multiple locks. There she thanks someone for their comfortable house. But all that’s in the room are boxes and plastic bags stained with blood. Seeing the horror while Satou gushes about her and Shio’s future shows you never know what’s beneath another’s smile.

Mama’s Looking For A Kid

Ghost Hunt

Ghost Hunt is the anime version of entertaining shows like Ghosthunters, but a lot more happens. Main character Mai,  with Naru, and the gang team up to solve hauntings, unexplained accidents, and curses. Like a fright out of The Conjuring universe, episode 4, “The Doll House, Part 1,” is disturbingly freaky. The crew investigate a home and set up cameras throughout. Later, watching the live feed, they see a lovely doll drag facedown across the bed. After twisting its head off, the head rolls to press against the camera. Lifeless doll eyes staring are creepy enough, but a taunting spirit raises it to pulse-pounding levels.

Literal Slice-of-Life

School Days
Discotek Media

School Days is famous for its ending. Though the series looked like a slice-of-life, the drama cranks up quickly as Makoto Ito flits between Sekai and Kotonoha, cheating left and right. Everything comes to a head in the last episode of School Days. Though he and Sekai were a couple—and she’s supposedly pregnant—he opts to leave her Kotonoha again. When Sekai leaves the room, he receives a text from her apologizing and telling him goodbye. Then a hurt and angry Sekai rushes in and stabs him repeatedly. Sure, it’s shocking when Kotonoha and Sekai face off later, but this scene was the moment that made jaws drop.

The Ultimate Beauty Champion: Huda Beauty Named the Most Popular Makeup Brand | Wealth of Geeks

Huda Beauty is the most popular makeup brand, a new study reveals. The survey by the booking app Hey Goldie analyzed over sixty different makeup brands. For each brand, Hey Goldie counted average Google searches for the United States and Instagram posts containing the brand’s name, then divided the sum by the years the brand has been around to even out the results and discover which is the most popular today.

Huda Beauty

Barbiecore Style Captivates The Internet: Google Searches for The Trend Reach Record Highs | Wealth of Geeks

The release of the Barbie movie teaser trailer and posters has set the imaginations of fashion and beauty-centric people in motion. With the film’s brilliantly colorful aesthetic and the fashionable clothing of the gorgeous stars, people are already brainstorming ways to boldly spruce up their look before the film’s July 21 opening weekend. If you want your personal Barbie movie premiere to look perfect, best start planning it now.

Wealth Of Geeks reported the enthusiastic and adoring reaction to Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Movie update for the brand’s fans, fashionistas, and film buffs alike. The film’s style had them swooning, with the hair, clothes, shoes, and rollerblades all part of the excitement.

Give Us Some Numbers

Unsurprisingly, an analysis of Google data by Flaunt Your Fashion has revealed that searches for ‘blonde hair dye.’ went through the roof hours after the poster and trailer’s release, rising one hundred and fifty-seven percent. Searches for ‘Barbie style’ rose one hundred and forty-two percent worldwide, and searches for ‘pink clothes’ rose an impressive one hundred and seventy-four percent.

The newly released trailer and movie posters have caused a buzz online, with fans eagerly awaiting the movie, which is set to be released in the Summer. As these findings show, the excitement has also transcended into the fashion space. A Flaunt Your Fashion spokesperson said, “Barbie has been a staple of popular culture for decades with her instantly recognizable look. Many fans want to emulate Barbie’s iconic style, indicating that pink tones, cowboy boots, and bright patterns are set to make a big comeback this Summer.”

Iconic Blonde Style Mavens

With that in mind, you might enjoy a list of iconic blonde actresses in their most stylish roles. Here are some of the quintessential roles that embrace the Barbiecore style.

Marilyn Monroe – Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

Monroe’s iconic turn as showgirl Lorelei Lee is one of the most famous images of style on film. Her hot pink strapless gown with matching gloves during the musical number Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend has been imitated by stars like Madonna in the video for her song Material Girl and in the film Birds Of Prey which coincidentally stars Margot Robbie. Her hair is the classic platinum blonde. Maybe you might want to wear a full gown or not, but taking inspiration from such a style is never a bad thing.

Jane Fonda – Barbarella (1968)

Another iconic style maven in cinema is Jane Fonda’s Barbarella. In this space epic, strawberry-blonde Fonda wears various hot space suits resembling sleek leotards and leggings with knee-high, high-heeled boots. Her hair is styled beautifully in the bouffant late sixties style, which could be great for women looking for hair inspiration who have long tresses. The film, directed by her husband, Roger Vadim, is so revered for its style that people have tried to remake it for decades.

Alicia Silverstone – Clueless (1995)

Clueless Paramount PIctures

Amy Heckerling’s adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma is the story of Cher, a fashion-obsessed teenager at Beverly Hills High. Cher is so concerned with her looks and style that she takes Polaroids of her outfits before she wears them to ensure they are perfect. Clueless inspires and continues to stimulate interest in looking good and fashionable clothing to this day. Those eye-popping outfits with color-coordinated plaids, knee socks, and feather boas draw people to the film and the message of self-improvement.

Reese Witherspoon – Legally Blonde (2001)

Legally Blonde scaled

Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods is one of the reigning queens of pink clothing and blonde hair. After all, the film series is called Legally Blonde. Directed by Robert Luketic, Elle even looks good when she is unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend, Warner. Pink suits, pink dresses accented with other shades of pink, and the occasional teal-striped sweater coat with a purple tie make Elle Woods one of the most adored blonde style icons.

Nicole Kidman – To Die For (1995)

todiefor1

Another strawberry blonde, but Nicole Kidman stars in Gus Van Sant’s To Die For as Suzanne Stone, an ambitious local weatherwoman who knows the value of looking good at all times. Her pastel suit dresses and hair are very Jackie Kennedy Onassis and very sixties, one of the many styles that Barbie embraces. Her style is deadly in its calculated effect on everyone around her.

Jamie Lee Curtis – Perfect (1985)

perfectjamieleecurtis1

Eighties style had a lot to do with workout wear. You might have noticed the paparazzi photos of Margot Robbie in the neon workout leotard and leggings from Venice, California. The film Perfect, directed by James Bridges and starring Oscar winners Jamie Lee Curtis and John Travolta, was a great example of 80s workout wear chic.

Joan Cusack – Addams Family Values (1993)

addams family values joan cusack

In Barry Sonnefeld’s sequel Addams Family Values, Joan Cusack plays Debbie Jelinsky, the cunning black widow who plays innocent with a series of modish pastel dresses complete with feather boas, hats, and veils. Debbie is another style maven who proves you can get nearly anything you want if you look good.

Scarlett Johansson – Hail Caesar (2016)

hail caesar1 e1680729318718

Usually, color is the biggest concern, but there’s always room for hairstyle inspiration. Scarlett Johansson plays Hail Caesar’s DeeAnna Moran, and it’s one of her more stylish blonde roles. It is set in 1950s Hollywood, and Moran is a swimming star actress patterned on the real-life Esther Williams. The directors, The Coen Brothers, covered Johansson‘s in 50s glamour and gave her some of the most beautiful hair stylings on this list.

Cameron Diaz – Charlie’s Angels (2000)

Cameron Diaz stars as Natalie Cook in this update of the 1970s-era TV show of the same name. She and her co-stars, as directed by McG, are updating the trendy 70s style of the show and the style of female secret agents over the years with hip outfits that accentuate their bodies significantly. Cook wears a black and white ensemble, a long-sleeved button-down with a black vest and pants that screams the 70s. As a blonde-style icon, Diaz is a little underrated, but it’s about the fit. It’s called a fit for a reason.

Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried – Mean Girls (2004)

Mean Girls Broadway Video

Two of the titular Mean Girls in Mark Waters’ directed, Tina Fey-written film are blondes. Rachel McAdams is the meanest of the mean girls, and Amanda Seyfried is her more laid-back pal. Mean Girls is a mid-aughts parade of pink style. So much pink, including frosted lipstick. Because they are in high school, the style is less dialed in than in other films. Still, as a more casual and put-together look, Regina George and Karen Smith could influence those who want something other than full-force fashion.

Jayne Mansfield – Kiss Them For Me (1957)

jayne mansfield

When talking about iconic blondes, you should remember Jayne Mansfield. Less well-known than Marilyn Monroe but undoubtedly chic and with a powerful look, Mansfield’s voluptuous figure is a style inspiration for women with similar body types. As Alice Kratzner, in this Stanley Donen-directed film, you must admire her impeccably styled platinum blonde locks and figure-hugging pastel frocks.

Olivia Newton-John Xanadu (1980)

In the Barbie movie, Barbie loves to rollerblade, and it’s part of her style. While there isn’t a blonde-style icon on rollerblades, Barbie will be the first. Olivia Newton-John’s style in Xanadu, directed by Robert Greenwald and co-starring one of cinema’s most celebrated dancers, Gene Kelly, is notable. Newton-John’s sassy 80s style included frilly white and pastel dresses, knee-high boots, and an epic fringed jacket as part of a cowgirl outfit with a cowboy hat. I must shout out to the other rollerskating blonde from a film set in the 70s/early 80s, Heather Graham in Boogie Nights, because she dons a visor hat like the one Barbie has in the rollerblading photos. As directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Boogie Nights gives Rollergirl, who never takes her skates off, a casual hip-70s vibe.

Who Says Money Is The Root of All Evil? Here’s Why It’s Not | Wealth of Geeks

Have you heard the phrase, “money is the root of all evil?”

If so, it may have caused you to think twice about asking for that promotion, pursuing that side hustle, or investing in the latest asset craze.

Alternatively, maybe you’ve chosen not to share your financial goals or career successes on social media or with friends and family in real life because you’re worried what others might think of your ambitions.

It’s time to stop sabotaging your success. There’s nothing inherently wrong with being wealthy or pursuing financial success if you obtain your money ethically and for the right reasons.

Here’s what the phrase “money is the root of all evil” really means.

Who Said “Money Is The Root of All Evil” in The Bible?

The phrase “money is the root of all evil” comes from 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV) in the Bible, where the apostle Paul writes: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

In this passage, Paul is warning his friend and mentee Timothy about the dangers that can follow when people choose money over God.

He highlights this in the previous Bible verse, where he writes: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (1 Timothy 6:9 NIV).

Just like today, some people in the early church were more concerned with amassing a large fortune or an excellent reputation for themselves than they were with following God. In this passage, Paul said Timothy should pursue true contentment in Jesus Christ instead.

Why Is Money The Root of All Evil?

Thankfully, these Bible verses are not stating that being rich is inherently wrong or immoral. Money is not the root of all evil.

If you read 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV) closely, you’ll notice that this Scripture doesn’t say, “money is the root of all evil,” but rather, “the love of money is the root of all evil.”

This is a crucial distinction.

Money isn’t the problem. The problem occurs when we prioritize gaining wealth over our relationship with God. This is true whether we’re talking about money or about anything else we might prioritize over God, including our relationships, hobbies, or health.

The Bible doesn’t tell us we can’t be rich, only that we need to seek the kingdom of God first.

Furthermore, many other Bible translations translate this passage a bit differently.

In the New King James Version (NKJV), the New International Version (NIV), and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), the translators interpret the phrase as “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”

This one small word choice makes a huge difference!

While the love of money can cause evil, money itself is not the root of all evil.

What Is The Root of All Evil?

While the reckless pursuit of wealth can lead to increased evil in the world, as some do step on or take advantage of others to get ahead, the Bible never tells us that money alone is the sole cause of all evil.

Instead, Romans 5:1 tells us, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”

Money isn’t the root of all evil. Sin is.

As human beings with free will, we all have a choice each day: to do the right thing or the wrong thing. Unfortunately, none of us are perfect. We all sin at times. And our sins have consequences, both for ourselves and for others.

Money can play a part in this, but it is not the only cause of evil in the world.

Does The Bible Say It Is a Sin To Be Rich?

Because of 1 Timothy 6:10, some believe it is a sin for Christians to be rich or to seek to build wealth intentionally.

Matthew 6:24 also seems to support this idea. It says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Similarly, Matthew 19:24 tells us, “Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

However, we must be careful not to take a few verses out of their original context. The Bible has much more to say about wealth than these few verses alone.

Positive Examples of Wealth in The Bible

When we take the time to study the Bible as a whole (both the Old Testament and the New), we find numerous positive examples of wealth mentioned throughout the Scriptures.

For example, many well-known Biblical characters had great wealth. Abraham, Joseph, Job, King David, King Solomon, and even the apostle Matthew himself were all very wealthy and very devout believers.

The Bible even tells us that these monetary blessings were given directly by God.

Job 42:10 tells us, “After Job had prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes and gave him twice as much as he had before.”

Similarly, 1 Kings 3:1-15 tell us that God gave Solomon great riches he had not asked for: “Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both wealth and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.”

Bible Verses That Show Money Is Not The Root of All Evil

While the Bible does say that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil,” Scripture is clear that increased wealth can also be a sign of God’s blessing or favor.

  • “The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.” – 1 Samuel 2:7
  • “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.” – Proverbs 10:22
  • “For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.” – Deuteronomy 15:6
  • “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17
  • “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” – 2 Corinthians 9:8

These verses don’t imply that those in poverty have done anything wrong or are less righteous in any way, only that God may choose to bless some financially for reasons we might not ever fully know or understand.

Furthermore, the Bible also includes verses encouraging believers to enjoy their God-given wealth.

  • “Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.” – Deuteronomy 14:26
  • “Moreover, when God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God.” – Ecclesiastes 5:19

It’s okay to enjoy the good gifts God has given us! We can be thankful for what we have while simultaneously looking for ways to increase our wealth and share with others.

How Pursuing Wealth Can Be Morally Good

Rather than looking at money as the root of all evil, it is more accurate to view money as a morally-neutral tool. Just as a hammer or fork can be used both for good or for destruction, money can be used in the same way.

For Christians who tithe (i.e., donate ten percent of their income to their local church or other charities), the more money they make, the more money they can give. Because tithing is based on a percentage of earned income, any increase in income should automatically result in an increase in giving.

Plus, giving generously is easier when you aren’t living paycheck to paycheck.

According to an article on PhilanthropyRoundTable.org, “Religious practice is the behavioral variable most consistently associated with generous giving,” and “half of all American personal philanthropy and half of all volunteering [is] directly religious in character.”

In other words, people of faith are significantly more likely to donate to causes (both religious and secular) than those who don’t consider themselves religious.

Rather than contributing to self-indulgence and greed, the pursuit of additional wealth can be a way to serve God, practice good stewardship, and take social responsibility; three concepts Jesus said all believers should seek to practice as a way to love God and others.

Biblical Christianity and wealth are not at odds. The Bible says it is okay to earn money, save money, give money, and even enjoy money–as long as you don’t love money more than God.
