How Does TaskRabbit Work?

Founded in 2008, TaskRabbit is an online platform supported with a mobile app that connects workers with clients that need errands or other tasks completed. A TaskRabbit worker is known as a “Tasker”, they are paid at an hourly rate.

Typical tasks might include:

TaskRabbit allows you to;

  • Get approved as a Tasker and set up your profile for as many services as you’d like
  • Receive job notifications
  • Get paid by direct deposit into your checking account.

You can locate jobs in your local area, set times when you are available for work and edit your profile for customers. All of this can be achieved directly with the TaskRabbit app which you can download from the Google Play or Apple App Store.

The first time you start up the TaskRabbit app you will want to visit the “Home” tab. This is where you will find the tasks set for today, set your preferences and keep a track of your earnings. Another great tab is “Tasks” this is where you can look at past and current tasks.

The “Availability” tab is useful because this is where you will set your available working times. If you want a day off every Friday or you have an appointment on a certain day this is where you will set that up.

Other Tabs

The previous tabs are all useful but there are two other tabs that are vitally important, they are: the “Profile” and “My Business” tabs:

The Profile

The “Profile” tab is where you will promote your skills to potential customers that may want to hire you. You can set up your work area map that shows visitors the areas that you can reach and where you want to work.

Here you can add any vehicles to your profile which is handy if you’re going to be moving or delivering items. All information can be edited in real time if your circumstances change and this includes closing statements for your clients.

My Business

The “My Business” Tab is where you will monitor your earnings and a large number of other metrics that will help you to improve your efficiency and income level. This is also where you can add any useful skills that you think a potential customer may be interested in.

Don’t be modest here, you may think that a certain skill is not a big deal, but many people may not possess it and they will be willing to pay for your help. If you add new skills you can always edit the list in this tab to keep customers up to date.

Once you’ve set up your TaskRabbit profile and fine tuned it to attract customers it’s easy to use on the days you want to work. A Tasker will be notified about active Tasks in their area and then they can choose the ones they want to do. Some of the most popular jobs features on TaskRabbit, include: cleaning, delivery jobs, moving, assembling furniture, personal assistant, handyman work and running errands.

How Much You Can Make With TaskRabbit?

The average Tasker earns around $35 per hour in the U.S and £24 per hour in the U.K. At the moment we don’t have sufficient data on the emerging Canadian TaskRabbit scene but it’s safe to assume it’s an equivalent hourly rate of pay.

The amount of money that you can earn as a Tasker will depend on a few different factors, including: your experience, efficiency and your TaskRabbit rating. If you get a reputation for completing tasks quickly and efficiently your services will be in high demand because your TaskRabbit rating will reflect this.

Here are some typical tasks and the kind of money that a Tasker could expect to earn to complete them:

  • Carry some furniture up some stairs: $45-$105
  • Fix a minor plumbing problem: $55-$130
  • Assembling furniture: $55-$145
  • Home or Office Delivery: $25-$70
