Besides ads, you can also monetize your channel through sponsored videos. These are videos financed partially or completely by a brand in exchange for promotion. On average, YouTubers with 100,000 subscribers make $12,000 per sponsored video.

Take note that having that many subscribers can affect the number of views you’ll get. It also helps to work on other factors, such as getting your subscribers to like and comment on your videos. Another is to produce consistently high-quality content.

Do YouTubers Get Paid for Likes or Views?

YouTubers get paid for views, and not likes. However, it doesn’t mean that you can ignore the number of likes on your channel.

It’s because likes, along with shares and comments, constitute engagement. In the long run, these metrics can impact your contents’ search rankings. The easier people can search your content, the more views you can get.

Join the YouTube Partner Program

Additionally, views only convert to earnings if your channel is running ads. To monetize your channel, you’ll need to join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). This allows YouTube to place ads on your videos and share part of their ad revenue with you.

To become a YouTube Partner, your channel needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Have zero active Community Guidelines strikes
  • Follow the monetization policies
  • Have over 4,000 valid public watch hours within the previous 12 months
  • Have over 1,000 subscribers
  • Link an Adsense account to your YouTube

Moreover, you’ll need to be in a country or region where YPP is available. Besides that, YouTube requires you to turn on Two-Step Verification on your Google Account.

Quote: Your YouTube Studio account includes a notification feature to let you know once your channel has reached the minimum requirements. You’ll receive an email informing you that you have more than 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subscribers.

From there, you can start your application by clicking on “Start” on the Review Partner Program terms. Youtube’s automatic systems and human reviews will go over your channel content to see if these are following the guidelines.

If you’re accepted into the program, you can start setting up ad preferences and start earning from ad views. Otherwise, you can apply again after 30 days.

Do YouTubers Make Money If You Skip Ads?

If you’ve noticed, there are several types of ads you’ll find on a YouTube video. Some YouTubers add overlay ads that occupy part of the video screen. Then, bumper ads are six-second non-skippable videos.

There are also non-skippable ads that take 15 to 20 seconds. Viewers have to watch before they can view the actual video content. These types of ads typically help YouTubers make money.

Finally, there are the skippable video ads, allowing viewers to skip them after five seconds. In this case, YouTubers get paid depending on when the viewer clicked on the skip button.

If a viewer clicked the skip button when it appeared, the YouTuber won’t get paid. Similarly, advertisers won’t pay the YouTuber if the viewer watched less than 30 seconds of a one-minute ad.

On the other hand, if the viewer watches more than 30 seconds of the video ad, YouTubers get paid. Although in this case, advertisers pay only a fraction of what they would pay if the skip button isn’t clicked.
