Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs – Darwin Expert Committee Member
“We are looking for three new members of the Darwin Expert Committee (DEC), which is made up of independent experts including academics, practitioners and NGO representatives, along with government officials, all with significant senior leadership, knowledge and experience of biodiversity conservation and/or poverty reduction programmes in low- and middle-income countries. The primary role of the DEC is to provide high quality and independent technical specialist advice to the Darwin Initiative – one of Defra’s Biodiversity Challenge Funds (BCF), along with the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund and Darwin Plus. It competitively awards grants for biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction activities in eligible countries, helping these countries meet their commitments under the Multilateral Environment Agreements, Sustainable Development Goals, and national policy.”
Time: Members will be required to commit to: around fourteen days per annum in total to assess applications plus; two to three one-day sift meetings, plus; one to two strategy discussion days, where DEC members input on the long-term direction of the scheme.
Remuneration: We will be offering recruited members a stiped of £250 per day plus reimbursement of reasonable (standard class) travel and subsistence costs for attending committee meetings, and internet costs if needed.

Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities – Executive Chair of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)
“The Chair will be expected to do the following (amongst other things): oversee reforms to the LEASE service, including contributing to service improvement and working with the Department on what this means for LEASE; oversee the creation and delivery of robust and regular insights to DLUHC and the Welsh government on the issues that leaseholders and park homeowners are facing to support Government action where needed; provide clear strategic direction for the organisation and Executive/Non-Executive teams, using engagement with the Minister and DLUHC/Welsh Government officials to fully understand priorities and what these mean for LEASE.”

Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs – UK Genetics for Livestock and Equines Committee Member (x2)
“The UK Genetics for Livestock and Equines (UKGLE) Committee is an expert scientific advisory committee providing advice to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Devolved Administrations in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland…The Committee provides advice to Defra and Devolved Administrations on all issues relating to livestock genetic resources, particularly their efficient production, conservation, and sustainable use. For this purpose, UKGLE covers cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry and equines. UKGLE needs excellent people to help it deliver its vital work in assisting Defra to raise awareness of livestock genetic resources, responding to new technological advances, advising on ways of improving the productivity of livestock, and on zootechnical controls.”
Time: The UKGLE Committee meets up to three times each year. Some preparation time for the meetings will be required. Members may be required to work on average 1-2 days per month.
Remuneration: Committee members receive an attendance fee of £180 per meeting plus fees for preparation of £45 for 3 hours or £90 for 6 hours or more. Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses will also be reimbursed.

Department for Culture, Media, and Sport – Imperial War Museum Trustees (x2)

Remuneration: You can claim reimbursement for reasonable travel and subsistence costs which are properly and necessarily incurred on official business, in line with the travel and subsistence policy and rates for the organisation to which you are applying. However these payments are taxable as earnings and will be subject to tax and national insurance, both of which will be deducted at source under PAYE before you are paid.
