IPL 2024 Final Live: KKR coach Bharat Arun on team’s success

“I think it was pretty tough, the last two years. It was touch and go – we didn’t qualify. It needed a lot of introspection and now we can savour this moment. He (Harshit Rana) has been outstanding. It’s about backing your strengths. I think Mitch (Mitchell Starc) coming into the team boosted the confidence of other youngsters in the side. He is probably the best bowler in the world. Once he understood the Indian conditions, he was excellent. Spinners mature with age, and with Sunny (Sunil Narine) and Varun (Chakaravarthy) bowling in tandem, it was superb. He (Narine) brought a totally different dimension to our batting. It was Gautam (Gambhir) who insisted that he opened and it paid dividends. It’s a great night and now it’s time to celebrate,” said KKR bowling coach Bharat Arun.

Jaiswal sent him back during the second run, but Samson failed to take his crease in time. Karn, who received the throw at non-striker’s end, lacked presence of mind and didn’t take a shot at stumps. Had he hit the target, Samson would have been in trouble.

    RR 35/0 (4)

  • 21:48 (IST)

Yash Dayal has been slammed for four fours in his first over. The first one was a sharp catch at first slip where Cameron Green got a hand but failed to grab it. On the very next ball, Jaiswal slammed a four through the backward point and Virat Kohli saw it with a dejected expression.

While Trent Boult was sensational with the ball, Avesh Khan made a superb comeback to end on a high note. RCB 172/8 (20)

  • 21:13 (IST)

10 runs came off Trent Boult’s final over. He finishes with figures of 1 for 16 in four overs. That was a terrific performance from the left-arm pacer. Two overs are remaining in the innings of RCB and they should look to get over 180.

    RCB 154/5 (18)

  • 21:01 (IST)

IPL 2024 Live: RCB fighting back

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are fighting back. They are not going to give up for sure. They are still on course for a good total on the board. Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror are the batters out there.

    RCB 144/5 (17)

  • 20:53 (IST)

RR vs RCB LIVE: Huge controversy

On the third ball of 15th over, Avesh Khan got Dinesh Karthik out as LBW. Umpire raised his finger on the appeal but Karthik decided to review it. The UltraEdge showed a spike but it seemed that the ball cleanly hit Karthik’s front pad and the spike was rather due to the bat brushing the pad. The TV umpire failed to obeserve it closely and passes the verdict in batter’s favour. ajasthan Royals’ Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara and other RR members were furious over the decision.

  • 20:44 (IST)

    RR vs RCB LIVE: OUT!

  • 20:32 (IST)

    RR vs RCB LIVE: OUT!

Two wickets in two balls for Ashwin! He is on fire. And what a poor shot this is from Glenn Maxwell to lose his wicket. It was the first ball he was facing and he decided to go downtown. He mistimed it and handed an easy catch to Dhruv Jurel at long-on.

    RCB 97/4 (12.4)

  • 20:29 (IST)

    RR vs RCB LIVE: OUT!

A wicket for Ravichandran Ashwin and it is Cameron Green, who departs after scoring 27 runs off 21 balls. Ashwin tossed it up and Green edged it high in the air before Rovman Powell took the catch. RCB are once again under pressure.

    RCB 97/3 (12.3)

  • 20:23 (IST)

    IPL 2024 Live: Catch dropped!

10.4 – Would you believe it? Dhruv Jurel has dropped the catch of Rajat Patidar at mid-on. Ravichandran Ashwin got Patidar top-edging a delivery. The ball went in air and it was a dolly for Jurel, who came in running for long-on only to let it pop out of his hands.

    RCB 82/2 (11)

  • 20:19 (IST)

RR vs RCB LIVE: End of 10 overs!

  • 20:09 (IST)

RR vs RCB LIVE: Kohli is OUT!

This is a massive blow for RCB as Virat Kohli departs after scoring 33 runs off 24 balls. He tried to take Yuzvendra Chahal on but has lost his wicket in the process. Chahal gave the flight and Kohli went for an aerial short but found the fielder at the fence at deep mid-wicket.

Here are the Highlights of KKR vs SRH IPL 2024, Qualifier 1 match –

  • 22:59 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: What V Iyer siad

More than the confidence I was really wanting to go out and bat, we last played a game on 11th, so we all were eager to go out and showcase our talent. The wicket was really good. In a tournament like this, momentum is really important, we have seen RCB winning their matches and gaining the momentum even we wanted that momentum, so we wanted to go out and wanted the rain to stop but it was disappointing. But, we were the table toppers and we have got a lot of support from the management. It is always special for players like us to play in the IPL final, it’s a dreamy moment for us, going to Chennai and looking forward to it. We were raring to go out there, when you have the momentum you want to really go out there. You saw Rinku fielding in hot spots and taking those catches, it’s the excitement we have to go out there and perform.

  • 22:55 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Cummins after the match

Yeah we will try to put this behind quickly, good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things doesn’t quite work out. We weren’t where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn’t do much with the ball. Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket. Thought KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and the surface got better. We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on. (edited)

  • 22:47 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Kolkata Knight Riders have done it!

6,6,4,6,6 – Those were the last five balls of the match as Venkatesh Iyer and Shreyas Iyer both slammed half-centuries to guide KKR to a 8-wicket victory over SRH. KKR qualify for the IPL 2024 final while SRH will get another chance in Qualifier 2.

  • 22:36 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Ordinary stuff from SRH

For a team that looked almost unbeatable on multiple occasions, it has been an ordinary performance from SRH. The batters did not deliver and the bowling attack is looking a bit helpless against a KKR batting line-up which is marching on towards victory.

    KKR 124/2 after 11.3 overs

  • 22:31 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Missed chances

Another missed catch and this is getting worse for SRH. First it was Klaasen and now Travis Head has spilled a big chance. Shreyas Iyer made SRH pay right away as he slammed the next ball for a six.

  • 22:26 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: KKR all the way

    KKR 96/1 after 9.1 overs

  • 22:20 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: No stopping KKR

  • 22:08 (IST)

Venkatesh Iyer is also looking in good touch as he slammed Bhuvneshwar Kumar for a couple of boundaries. This is just good cricket from KKR and they are making this run chase look a bit too easy.

    KKR 57/1 after 5 overs

  • 21:56 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Gurbaz departs

T Natarajan has struck for SRH and it is Rahmanullah Gurbaz whose innings comes to an end on 23. A wayward shot from the KKR opener and it went straight to Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. Can SRH fight back?

    KKR 42/0 after 2.5 overs

  • 21:42 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Solid start

There is no stopping KKR at the moment. A six for Sunil Narine, a leg bye that went for four and now, a solid six for Gurbaz over third-man. SRH have no answers at this moment!

    KKR 25/0 after 1.5 overs

  • 21:41 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: What Starc said

I have been fortunate enough to play on some big occasions, nice to get our team off to a good start, we know how SRH matched us in terms of attacking with the bat in the powerplay. Their (Head and Abhishek) partnership has been the key for them and to get both of them out cheaply, it’s really pleasing. The wicket’s got a bit skiddier and there is some swing as well, I feel the wicket will get better with dew and the powerplay will be really key for us.

  • 21:35 (IST)

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Run chase begins

Sunil Narine opens the batting for KKR with Rahmanullah Gurbaz while Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be bowling the first over for SRH. An important run chase up ahead!

KKR vs SRH Qualifier 1 Live Score: Cummins fights on

The performance from SRH batters have been less than satisfactory but Pat Cummins is not giving up. A reverse sweep six for the SRH captain and he will be looking to take his side to at least 150.

(edited)

“When We Were Losing…”: RCB Star Opens Up About Emotional Journey | Cricket News

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) all-rounder Swapnil Singh, who entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the second half and made an immediate impact, opened up on his “emotional” cricketing journey that saw him experience numerous ups and downs and his relationship with star batter Virat Kohli.

RCB completed a remarkable turnaround from a horrid first half of the IPL 2024, which saw them win just one in eight games, to securing six successive games to reach the playoffs. In these six matches, Swapnil has played a crucial role with his small batting cameos, wicket-taking abilities and low economy rate. He has scored 28 runs across four innings at a strike rate of 164.70 and also got six wickets at an average of 19.00 and an economy rate of 8.76, with the best figures of 2/28.

Introducing himself to the audience, Swapnil said that though he was born in Lucknow, he has played for Baroda (2005-2020) and currently plays for Uttarakhand (2021-22 season onwards).

In 76 first-class matches, he has scored 2,727 runs at an average of 26.22, with two centuries and 16 fifties and taken 181 wickets. In 63 List-A games, Swapnil has made 1,153 runs at an average of 25.06, with six fifties and taken 67 wickets. In 81 T20s, he has made 877 runs with two fifties and got 69 wickets.

“My father was my first coach. I am playing cricket because of him. It was his passion to make me play that made this all possible. I was in class sixth when I shifted to Baroda for my cricket. He wanted me to become a batter. When I came to Baroda, I started to bowl. I made by Ranji debut at the age of 14 years and 355 days,” he recalled.

Recalling his bond with Virat, Swapnil said that he has played U15 and U19 level cricket with Virat and was his roommate during tours to Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

“When I met him after so many years, it felt so warm. We were meeting after so many years, asked each other about our lives and families. It felt really good,” he added.

Swapnil recalled being picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2008 IPL, the first-ever season and making his debut in the league for Punjab Kings much later in 2017, playing four games.

“I was picked in 2008 for Mumbai Indians. Sachin (Tendulkar) is like a god to us all. When I met him and interacted with him for the first time ever, it felt good. My IPL ebut happened against CSK while playing for PBKS. Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) was my captain. I had taken just one wicket, of MS Dhoni, caught and bowled,” said Swapnil.

Later, Swapnil recalled one of his biggest career setbacks, being removed from Baroda side in 2020 despite his consistent performances as an all-rounder. The 33-year-old said that this proved to be a blessing in disguise for him as he learnt to stand on his feet. Former cricketer Irfan Pathan helped him in finding another state, Uttarakhand, to further his career.

“In 2016-17, played Duleep Trophy for Baroda, scoring the highest run for them and took a lot of wickets. In 2019, I was among top three all-rounders in India in white-ball cricket. Then came COVID-19. After this, Baroda selections were held. I felt I was a sure shot. But the captain told me that my place was not available in the team. It was given to a youngster. So I was searching for a new state to play. Irfan Pathan helped me. It was a blessing in disguise because when you are thrown out of your house, you learn to stand on your feet. Now I realise Baroda did good to me, otherwise I would have been finished,” said Swapnil.

Swapnil said that Deepak Hooda, the all-rounder from Baroda, is like a brother to him and it was he who contacted Swapnil and helped him make a comeback to IPL as a net bowler for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last year.

The all-rounder said that though coach Andy Flower and spin coach Narendra Hirwani were impressed with his bowling, he asked Andy for an opportunity to bat as well, which he got. His batting also impressed the coaching staff. He also played two matches for LSG.

He also said that when Andy moved to RCB as a coach, he urged the Zimbabwean to give him one more chance and he got to attend a camp organised for selecting new players. He also recalled that during the auctions, he had almost given up on himself untill his family informed him that he was picked by RCB.

“Deepak Hooda is like a brother to me. When he called me to become a net bowler for LSG, I cut the phone and abused him (laughs). He called me again to think about it. Irfan told me to go. I was like I have played in IPL myself. The concept of net bowler had started just then. I went hesitatingly. Coach Andy Flower was impressed with me. I was bowling from ball one till the last. Narendra Hirwani was impressed with me, he was our spin coach. He flipped me 180-degree as a bowler. I talked to Andy as to why he did not try me in batting. He also made me bat. GG bhai (Gautam Gambhir, then LSG mentor) was also there, they were impressed with batting too. Andy has a big role to play in all this,” said Swapnil.

“When RCB picked me up, they had conducted a trials-cum-camp. I asked Andy to give me one more chance, that could have also been my last. He invited me for the camp. The camp was average. When the auction was happening, I was travelling to Dehradun for Ranji Trophy. When I landed, it must be 7 or 8 PM, last rounds of the auction must have been going on. Nothing had happened. I had also missed it thinking that its over. I wanted to play this ongoing season and one more season if possible since I did not want to do this all my life. I was very disappointed. I thought there were other things to conquer. But then my family called me, and we just broke down. Nobody knows how emotional this journey has been for me,” he added.

Swapnil said that when he came here, he was well aware that he would get a chance to play only later. So to prove himself, he treated each and every net session he attended as a proper match before he got a chance to play.

“When we were losing, I thought fans would abuse us. But fans were not going down. It was shocking to me. I felt really good that fans are really loyal to us. I used to talk to my brother that I wanted to hit just a four and six in the IPL, since I have a wicket. I got to do that as well. On my seventh ball of my first over (in which he bowled a no ball), I got a wicket. It is all god’s work,” he concluded.

How Is MI Looking At Their Captaincy Swap Move After Disappointing IPL 2024? | Cricket News

Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first side to be knocked out in the IPL 2024 season. The Mumbai-based franchise entered the competition under a new skipper, Hardik Pandya, and unfortunately, the Indian star all-rounder couldn’t replicate his Gujarat Titans success this year at MI. The star-studded Mumbai side lost their ninth game of the season against Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on Saturday and are currently reeling at the ninth position on the points table with only four wins in 13 games so far.

The power-packed batting unit didn’t glue up to perform well with the bat in one of the most explosive seasons this year. The top order led by veteran Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan has fired only in bits and pieces, while the middle order comprising Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Hardik Pandya looked inconsistent throughout the season.

Despite Jasprit Bumrah’s stellar performances with the ball, the bowling unit has also looked clueless, leaking runs for most of the tournament. The spin department consisting of Piyush Chawla, Mohammad Nabi, and Shreyas Gopal didn’t make a difference either.

This year, MI had a captaincy change that sparked controversy, with Hardik taking over for Rohit. The franchise’s fans did not take it well, even booing the all-rounder in the first few games at the Wankhede Stadium.

The captaincy swap left the team divided and scattered which also affected the dressing room atmosphere. Hence, it led the renowned MI side to their worst-ever IPL season in the tournament’s history.

Well, the franchises are bound to have a bad season once in a while but let’s discuss what has haunted Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 season under new skipper Hardik Pandya.

MI’s legacy

Once upon a time in the late 2010s, there was a power-packed Mumbai Indians side that could beat any T20 XI in the world.

The Mumbai-based franchise became one of the strongest sides under skipper Rohit Sharma’s helm and went on to lift the IPL title record five times – 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

Apart from IPL, Mumbai has also clinched the Champions League T20 title twice in 2011 and 2013.

The franchise built its core squad around captain Rohit Sharma which comprised the likes of Kieron Pollard, Lasith Malinga, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult.

But, for the past few years, MI has looked rusty after losing its core group of players since the end of the 2021 IPL season. They have only made the playoffs once (2023) in the last four seasons including the ongoing IPL 2024.

Hardik taking over leadership duties for Rohit

After a couple of below-par seasons from the team, MI owners might have brought in Hardik Pandya for Rohit Sharma as captain keeping the former’s successful campaigns at Gujarat Titans in mind.

In November 2023, MI traded all-rounder Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in an all-cash deal through the trading window. This transaction provided the necessary funds for MI to finalize another all-cash deal with Gujarat Titans (GT) to acquire the services of Hardik Pandya.

This can also be termed as a tactical move by the franchise considering the team’s future and Rohit edging closer to the end of his career.

Even mathematically, Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful captains in the IPL history with 89 wins in 158 games for MI, boosting a win percentage of 56.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya’s stint as Gujarat Titans’ captain has also mesmerized the world as the two-year-old franchise reached the IPL finals in 2022 (champions) and 2023 consecutively.

As GT’s captain, Hardik had won 22 of the 31 matches he played for the Ahmedabad-based side. The star all-rounder boosted a magnificent win percentage of 71 which caught the eyes of MI’s management.

What’s wrong with Hardik’s captaincy in IPL 2024?

MI under Hardik Pandya looked unsettled in their IPL 2024 opener against GT where they failed to complete an easy run chase in Ahmedabad. Except for Jasprit Bumrah (20 wickets) none of the Mumbai star players have been consistent this year.

Even Hardik’s own performances didn’t help this season; having managed only 200 runs with the bat he is yet to score a half-century. While the fast bowler in him has probably delivered 11 wickets in as many innings.

There might be numerous factors for the downfall of Mumbai Indians this season but former IPL star batter AB de Villiers reckons Hardik Pandya’s captaincy style as one of the major reasons for MI’s collapse.

“The captaincy style of Hardik Pandya is quite bravado. It’s ego-driven in a way, chest out,” de Villiers said in a recent video on his YouTube channel. “I don’t think how he walks on the field is always genuine, but he has decided that is his way of captaincy. Almost like MS (Dhoni). Cool, calm, collective, always got your chest out. But when you play with a lot of experienced players, guys who have been around for ages… They don’t buy into that. It worked at GT, where it was a younger team. Sometimes, inexperienced players love to follow that kind of leadership.”

Furthermore, the RCB legend shared his personal experience playing under Graeme Smith in the National team.

“I remember Graeme Smith. He was out there for the team. All I needed to do as a youngster was to follow. Now there’s a Rohit (Sharma), there’s a (Jasprit) Bumrah. They go like, ‘All we need you to be is calm. Give us a bit of input on how to win matches. We don’t need the bravado. I’m not having a go at Hardik. I love watching him play. I love him putting out his chest because I was like that. I believed that as a batter, sometimes you’ve got to fake it to make it,” de Villiers added.

As per a report, the senior MI players have expressed their views to the coaching staff on the way the team is being led and their perspectives on the team’s underwhelming results.

What’s next for MI?

With the top-four spots out of reach, Mumbai Indians will only play for pride in their final league game against Lucknow Super Giants. While there are a lot of learnings and takeaways for the much-important mega-auction ahead of their next season in 2025.

  • 22:01 (IST)

DC vs LSG Live Score: What Rishabh Pant said

We would have batted first. There are a lot of things going on (regarding qualification) but you can only focus on winning the game. If you had not lost too many wickets we would have won that game, but easier to say that from sitting out. That is a concern throughout the season but as a captain you can ask the players to give their best and they are doing that. We have two changes – myself and Naib come in, Warner misses out.

  • 19:21 (IST)

DC vs LSG Live Score: What KL Rahul said

“We will bowl first. It is because of how our team is placed and what will help our team. We are a young bowling attack and get them into the game early, we have experienced batters and they can take the pressure. It is pretty clear for us, we have to win both games. The last two games we have not been up to the mark and have been blasted out of the game. The bowlers have to be brave, as a bowling unit you might fear using change ups but they have to do just back themselves. Couple of changes.”

Boost For India Ahead Of T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli Shows Uptick In Strike-Rate, Spin Game In IPL 2nd Half | Cricket News

Star Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India batter Virat Kohli continues to prove his undeniable mettle as a T20 player amid the divisive views by fans, cricket experts and former players, giving Men in Blue a boost ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in West Indies and USA this year from June 1 onwards. Continuing his fine run with the bat and indicating that he can hit big from ball one if needed, Virat played a solid knock of 27 in just 13 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Sunday.

His knock had a four and three massive sixes and a strike rate of over 207. A huge part of this knock was his back-and-forth with compatriot and pacer Ishant Sharma, someone who has been around Virat since his academy days. Both exchanged jokes, shared laughs and tried to get one-up on each other before a fine delivery by Ishant was nicked by Virat straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Abhishek Porel.

In the ongoing season, Virat is the Orange Cap holder for most runs, making 661 runs at an average of 66.10 and a strike rate of 155.16, with a century and five fifties. His best score is 113*. RCB, who has made a remarkable comeback in the tournament with five successive wins after a horrid win-loss record of 1-6 in the first half, will need Virat to be at his best against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their final league game at Bengaluru on May 18 for a chance at playoffs.

Often being questioned on his strike rate, Virat has swung back at his critics in his signature fashion, ditching boundaries in favour of huge sixes and passing verbal jabs at naysayers during post-inning or match presentations.

In the first six games of the tournament, Virat scored well at a healthy strike rate. He made 319 runs in his first six innings in 225 balls at a strike rate of 141.77. 29 fours and 12 sixes came from Virat’s bat, marking a ratio of 5.4 balls per boundary. He was forced to play the anchor and attacker at the same time as other batters around him struggled for form and rhythm. Virat scored a century and two fifties in these six innings.

The switch flipped in Virat’s batting when they were tasked with chasing 288 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their seventh game. Though RCB faced a 25-run loss despite a valiant effort, Virat scored 42 in 20 balls, with six fours and two sixes. His strike rate was 210.00.

Since that SRH game, fans have experienced a different Virat. In these next seven innings, Virat scored 342 runs in just 201 balls, with a strike rate going up to a massive 170.14. 27 fours and 21 sixes have come from his bat in these seven innings starting from that SRH game. The balls per boundary ratio has also come down, with 4.1 balls taken to smash one.

An unnoticed positive of Virat’s remarkable run is his six-hitting. He has smashed a total of 33 sixes so far, the second-highest by a batter next to SRH’s Abhishek Sharma (35 sixes). Virat has more sixes than Sunil Narine (32), Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Riyan Parag (31), Australian sensation Jake Fraser McGurk and Shivam Dube (28), Rajat Patidar (27) and Rishabh Pant (25).

This is the only second time Virat has crossed 30 sixes in a single season of IPL, with his highest peak coming in 2016, when he smashed 38 sixes in 16 games. He has one more league game atleast to add more to his tally.

Since that Sunrisers game, Virat’s strike rate against spin, something considered his weakness, has also gone up. In his first six IPL 2024 innings, Virat scored 128 runs in 98 balls against spin, with only four boundaries and seven sixes coming from his bat. He played 28 dot balls against spin and his SR against spin was 130.61.

However, that SRH inning during the chase of 287 runs, sparked a change in his spin game as well. From that knock onwards, Virat has smashed 132 runs in 90 balls against spin, with 11 fours and six sixes coming from his bat. His strike rate also increased to 146.66 against spin and he played 26 dots against the moving ball.

Virat’s overall strike rate against spin in this IPL is 138.29, with 260 runs hit in 188 balls against spin. He has smashed 13 sixes against spin and 15 boundaries. He has played 54 dot balls against spinners.

In the past five seasons, Virat’s overall SR against spin has been: 113.46, 108.08, 100.00, 108.91 and 130.14. His strike rate against spin was at its best in the 2016 season, where he struck at 152.30 and 2015 season, where he scored his runs at 151.21 against spin bowling.

Following his match-winning knock of 92 in just 47 balls against Punjab Kings recently on May 9, Virat had spoken about being more attacking in his approach, bringing out slog sweeps against spinners after a long-time and the idea of self-improvement.

“For me, it is still quality over quantity (on his runs and numbers). More so now, at this stage of my career, heading into 36. The understanding of my game over so many years allows me to practice less, and still stay mentally switched on. And some added challenges in terms of improving your own game. Certain aspects of the game, you want to get better at. It’s an ever-evolving process. I am not a guy who wants to sit around saying ‘this is the way I play’ and not improve on the things I need to,” said Kohli.

Kohli further explained about his slog-sweep shot against the spinners.

“I brought out the slog-sweep to the spinners. It was me mentally putting myself in that situation. I did not practice that at all. I know I can hit it because I have played that shot a lot in the past. So I just felt like I needed to take a bit more risk and for me, that shot was something that I used to hit regularly back in the days. That shot is now allowing me to hit off the backfoot as well. I am always looking to expose that side of the field against the spin. It’s been a massive factor for me in the IPL,” the right-hand batter added.

“It just takes a bit more conviction and put out that thought that props up ‘what if I get out?’. I have been managing to stay ahead of that thought. And that has allowed me to keep my strike rate up in the middle overs and scoring for my team as well,” the Delhi-born player concluded.

This refreshed approach of Virat in T20 cricket, especially against spinners, could just be what India needs on slow surfaces of the Caribbean and it would be interesting if Virat would carry forward his form to the World Cup.
