Polygon Partners With Stripe

Twitter and Stripe announced today that it’s rolling out creator payments in USDC on top of Polygon Network. The payments will be rolled out to a select group of Twitter creators. The release didn’t specify who exactly will be able to receive the stablecoin as payment, but it did say that the service will eventually be available to anyone who opts in.

Stripe also specified that Twitter is the first partner in their crypto payment program. The online payment processor is excited about the prospects of integrating crypto:

“While the “store of value” aspects of cryptocurrencies typically receive the most attention, we view the prospect of “open-access global financial rails” as being at least equally compelling. As a result, we’ve been exploring ways to use cryptocurrency-based platforms to unlock broader access.”

The USDC payments will be on top of the Polygon Network. Polygon is arguably the biggest Ethereum scaling solution. In Stripe’s case it was necessary to go with a layer-2 solution because of Ethereum’s gas fees and congestion. Stripe’s payment service handles 100 transactions per second. The Irish-American company plans to roll out the program to as many 120 countries.

The Twitter announcement comes as Elon Musk is hastily trying to takeover the social media giant. One of Musk’s bright ideas involves making Dogecoin a payment option on Twitter.

Polygon is up almost 1% in the last 24 hours. It’s currently trading in the $1.40 range, down over 50% from its all-time high of $2.92.
